if you can see the entrance holes get some ant killer powder squirt it down the holes as the bees or wasps go in and out they carry the powder all round the nest and bump dead bee,s usualy no repeat i do wasps nest in the morning and collect the nest next morning and stright in to the freezer (fishing bait wasp grub)

Thanks, managed to get a local bee keeper to come round and remove them, apparently he smokes them out, without causing them harm, then has several nets to catch them as they come out, he will then take them home. Job done !!

All f.o.c. as well.:D :D

You can easily tell the difference

By looking at their knees.

local bee keeper

I keep bees, but am not local or would pop around and sort them.
The local police will have a list of local bee keepers.
They will sort out the problem.
But most call outs tend to be for bumble bees or wasps
Its a bit early in the year for wasps mind

Teach your young un not to be scared.

Maybe catch a bee in a glass and let him/her watch it. Explain what they do, how they live, how they pollenate plants and all that carry on. We've had bees in the lawn for years, when they were little my daughter and her friends used to sit next to the hole and watch them come and go. It's far preferable to learn to live with nature rather than constantly battle against it.

I was thinking

they sounded like bumblebees what with the size and living in the lawn. Do other bees live underground too? Bee keepers don't keep bumblebees do they?
