A bloke in front of me this afternoon constantly said, "this is what happens when you buy lower league players", DO ME A FAVOUR AND SIT SOMEWHERE ELSE, the "Lower league" players ran their knackers off this afternoon, it's the player's we had before which for me were the problem this afternoon. I can only start with Jay McEverley, now he couldn't have got worse after tuesday night, and inevitably enough, he didn't. He improved ever so slightly for the first 70 minutes, but was still awful. The last 20 minutes he showed a little more promise, and got a couple of decent balls into the box, but by then too little too late. Danny Haynes, far too lazy, however played better when moved alongside Davies rather than out wide. Must improve if he's gunna keep his place in the team. As for these "lower league players", Perkins ran his bag off again, and was rightfully given man of the match, did nothing wrong and seemed to be our only light at the end of a really dark afternoon. Addison, another player we've brought in who looks solid in midfield, another good performance by him. Wiseman and McNulty went from one extreme to the other all afternoon, one minute giving the ball away, the next, Wiseman was playing a beautiful 70 yard pass diagonally across the pitch. I take back my comment about Perkins, as the real shining light of the afternoon, was the promise Vaz Te showed when he came on, particularly in the last 5 minutes, a few good crosses into the box, and had a couple of efforts, looked our only real goal threat of the afternoon. Now I could bang on about the officials, how the bald headed lino infront of the West stand, missed two offsides in the build up to the goal, and how he didn't give a goal late on, despite their defender clearing from behind the line (albeit it was tight). But at the end of the day, the fact that for the first 85 minutes of the match, we created absolutly nothing, cost us the game, Southampton didn't hurt us when they had the opportunity and could have been out of sight well before the foul on Davies which SHOULD have been a penalty. The goal, again, I could blame the lino, I could have blamed David Preece, but surely the blame must lie at the feet of McNulty, McEverley and (i think) Edwards, who between them headed the ball around in the 6 yard box, despite being under relatilvely a low amount of pressure. Why didn't they direct it back to Preece, it's okay saying Preece should have claimed it, but the ball kept going over his head, he couldn't get anywhere near it. Tuesday night, Vaz Te must start, maybe in place of Doyle. Move Butterfield or Perkins into the centre of the park. I'd also be tempted to give RNL a go ahead of Haynes. Ratings- Preece- 6.5 Wiseman- 6 McNulty- 6 Edwards- 6.5 McEverley- 5 Addison- 7 Perkins- 7.5 Butterfield- 6.5 Doyle- 6 Haynes- 5.5 Davies- 6.5 Vaz Te- 7 RNL- 6.5
good post archey, only thing i'd like to add is that after the early booing a few of the players got nervous on the ball Mceverly was one of them. not wanting to blame the booing on the performance after all they are supposed to be professionals but they are also human.
Pretty fair comments and ratings. Your right about Vaz Te, I would let him play up front with Davies if we do start with 2 strikers up there. He might be the one who can produce that bit of something we are sadly lacking.
Preece is 6ft. He can use his hands. The ball was in the 6yd box which is HIS area. He should have kicked the players out of the way to get to the ball and shouted for the ball!!
