Well, nearly. I'd take issue with our history being "glorious" but I reckon it's because our civilisation cost so much that it's worth preserving.

This Sundays Observer a guy by the name of Thomas Kielinger.  We have a great history, and we are being undermined and abused. We are our own wort enemy and it has to stop.

 

Aye thats spot on. Thing is if we said those things folk would call us racist cos thats how feckin stoopid this country is.

It wont be long before we cant fly the union jack or st george cross because it upsets people. infact i can remember back in the last world cup or euro champs (cant rememeber) that guy in Bradford was made to take his england flag down because of the other minority groupds in the area. Pathetic.

Something has to be done, also in the same paper an article by a journo stating the Police and MI5 had had no help whatsoever from the Birmingham Muslim Community in fact the opposite.

I mentioned this a few days ago. They need to get off the fence and act like proper British citizens. The fundamentalists should have nowhere to hide.

If they're not prepared to do that then they should have no complaints about Joe Public assuming they all piss in the same pot.

Last year in Turkey I made friends with a local. He was a clever and reasonable fella and very proud of his country. We talked at length about Islam, the west and Turkey's possible role in reconciling the two.

On my last day there I said I was sorry I hadn't had the chance to have a good look at the mosque and he asked me why. I said, "Because it's a beautiful building."

"Yes," he said, "It's a beautiful building but the people inside it are stupid."

There was a beautiful expose of one such individual in the Times yesterday. Before accepting authority on a subject it's important to examine the credentials and look for bias, even that which is masked.

 

A few jobsworths make a few people take a few flags down, and the staunch patriots get in a huff and pretend the UK is collapsing around our ears.

Someone wrote summat like Being British is:

drinking Belgian beer, in an Irish bar, having an a Turkish kebab (or Indian) on way home, watching American programmes, on a Jap TV, in a Swedish living room...and so it went on

finishing with "and having a suspicion of foreigners"

Of all the ones who wrote in, that was the best one. Oh, and in case my Tory tendencies are in danger of coming out, I picked it up free at the airport...honest, guv.

However, you shouldn't ever be ashamed to fly the Union flag. It's our flag, not the BNP's.
