Would practice your Irish accent. Went with a few mates about 5 years ago and we got turfed out of a few watering holes once they heard our accents. Not sure about the day times, we just tended to spend all our time in the pubs.
stayed in the Europa 3 weeks ago...very central. went to a linfield game but glentoran also close by. plenty of shopping for the missis and would recommend the mural tour. mainly pubs and clubs but try the www.cometobelfast.com site for ideas......concerts,sports events etc. cheap flights from donny with Flybe.com
Cheers both, think I'll go, taking the missus and maybe the kids......I live near Leeds Bradford Airport and can fly fromthere for £26.00 each way inc taxes.
Will be there for a few days in April myself & yes, it's excellent. I also recommend a political murals tour - see the tourist information office & get them to book you a "black taxi tour". A traditional 5 seater will then take you around the trouble spots for about an hour (cheaper than you might think) - what an eye opener! Personally recommend the good old Travelodge for digs. You won't get a location like that for the money, as is often the case. Accents never a problem in good old, 75%+ loyalist Belfast, in my experience. Rapidly becoming far too cosmopolitan for its own good anyway, so don't worry about getting any trouble/grief.
5 star hilton currently doing 2 nights b n b plus a la carte meal on 1st night for £149.....thats for 2 people. bout 10 minute walk into centre and next door to odessy arena. no problems with the people either....mural tour was £25 for 4 people in a black cab...a must do.
Belfast's a cracking city and booming. House prices have rocketed and the city centre is being redeveloped. Spent 4 days in NI last Feb. The area around Queens University is pretty lively with some good bars and restaurants. The Botanics are good to have a walk around and I spent a whole afternoon wandering around the Ulster Museum learning about the history of the troubles. The black cab tour is good value for money but a hire car is a must to go further afield. The coastal route from Larne up to Bushmills taking in the Giant's Causeway is one of the best drives around. Plenty of stop offs on the way and lunch at the Bushmills Inn sets you up nicely for a tour round Bushmills distillery! Best Belfast Restaurant... http://www.villaitaliarestaurant.co.uk/ Best Belfast Bar http://www.potthouse.co.uk/ (where there's a glass ceiling allowing you to have a good view of ladies legs upstairs!)
always fancied a weekend in N Ireland/Belfast but never got round to it, scared of saying the wrong thing in certain company. Got asked what my religion was while drinking with Rangers fans in a bar in Glasgow post Celtic v Rangers match , had to lie.
Ooh, I can recommend the Hilton... I stayed there last year!! We had a party in the bar with a certain band I quite like, cos it was the last night of their tour!! Didn't get to see much of Belfast though, we were only really there for the gig.
