We have no choice but to get behind him regardless of him being Number 1 choice or not, afterall he is a BFC player. Whether he is good enough or not, i think its too early to judge as he only played a handful of games in such a bad team.
hope his wrists are a bit stronger then last time i saw him, they where flapping about like he was out int tarn on a Tuesday night,
He played when we were supposedly having our best spell under Keef last season. With the same players that went on to save us from releagtion, by and large.
Cant see Alnwick being number one...............Obviously Flicker dunt like Steele (snap, cos I dont)..........but he liked him better than Alnwick because it were Steele that played last season SO................expect another keeper before the start of the season
He has said he has no problems as Alnwick as number 1 though. I just hope that if he makes a mistake the crowd don't get on his back like they did with Wiseman last season. Confidence is vitally important for a goalkeeper and he'll lose that very quickly if there's grumblings or booing behind him in the Ponty. I think the team deserves our unconditional support next season.
Futile, pal. Any mistake he makes will be jumped on by all and sundry. However, should he perform well, the same folk will say he's better than Steele and/or Flicker got it bang on.
Alnwick was awful in the pre-season games and I'd have happily shipped him off there and then. However, as the games went on he got better and better, all the while having Luke Steele breathing down his neck. I would have thought it inconcievable during the pre-season that he could keep Steele out, but the way he was playing he didn't deserve to be dropped. Of course, the first time he made a mistake it was obvious the crowd would get on his back and demand Steele back in the team, which is what happened. But, whilst I would prefer Steele to stay, if Alnwick is to become our number one I wouldn't expect him to make any more mistakes over the course of the season than Steele would.
I can tell you right now, if he nuts a player or has another moment of utter stupidity putting the team in jeopardy then unconditional support will not be what he receives from me and id bet a few others too.
That is exactly what I believe. He made an unwise/naive move in one match and got sent off thus allowing Steele back in. That unwise move was getting involved with the Rochdale forward which in my book was not a sending off as he didn't nut him. I would have given both players a yellow for ungentlemanly conduct. Alnwick for putting his face in the Rochdale players face and the Rochdale player for feigning injury. It certainly wasn't violent as some one here would have us believe.
It makes no sense and is an accident waiting to happen. Just as that defence settled down and formed an understanding it gets fcked with. I was asked to believe in these players and I did, turns out the manager doesn't. And I don't believe it's all over 50k a year. He's creating his own ghosts here Flitcroft, that will come back and haunt him. I fancied a season ticket, but I've also got a record to finish and that has made up my mind for me.
"He made an unwise/naive move in one match and got sent off thus allowing Steele back in." That's not how Steele got back in. Alnwick got sent off in the very first match of the season, away at Rochdale in the cup. Steele was injured at the time, so we brought in David Gonzalez Giraldo to cover Alnwick's suspension. Giraldo played the next three games, before Alnwick was back in the side. No surprise really as Giraldo had conceeded 9 goals in those games. Alnwick was dropped after the Forest home game where we lost 4-1 and he had an absolute nightmare. I read above that it's unlikely Alnwick will make more mistakes in a season than Luke Steele. I think he made more mistakes in that one game than Luke made over the rest of the season.
Alnwick got better and better? It must have been someone else in net for Ipswich (H) where he let in a freekick that I would have saved (and I am no goalkeeper) and Forest (H) where he was utterly woeful.
