I love our fans, Pearson did a shocker of a tackle on the Swindon player, nailed on yellow, unarguable & all the fans around me abusing the ref & giving it the old 'it's his first one, you've got to let him off'. I think if one of our lads did a Roy Keane on Haaland they'd say to let it go if it was early on in the game
Ref set the tone in first 5 mins giving every tackle as a foul. He then 'looked the other way' when Hoirihane received a equally poor foul then was pushed in the face. I think the ref had a poor game and I hadn't even took the two penalty calls into account.
That said how did they get away with keeping 11 on the pitch? Could have had no complaints if they ended the game with 8. 1. The keeper for THAT incident 2. Their player who deliberately fouled hourihane for a nailed on yellow And then raised his hand and pushed him in the face while the ref watched which is a straight red with no room for leniency in the rules. 3. Him who was constantly fouling. Can't remember his name but I think it was the same player who literally wrestled someone to the floor I front of the west stand
I must admit I thought the same - it's his first foul of the game so a sensible referee would have given him a good talking to and said next one and it's a yellow. I think the problem though, as I said yesterday, is that referees are watching Pearson and probably comparing notes. He's getting a reputation for flying in to the tackle so will get suspended at least twice this season I reckon. Similar story with Scowen. Great player though he is there are far too many tumbles when he is on the run. Maybe give him the benefit of the doubt - he's too quick for most of them but referees are going to ignore fouls on him more than they give the decision. Could cost us a few penalties. Great to see him play though - he's a proper player at this level, and probably good enough for the one above.
I'm not disputing the ref got a lot wrong but that Pearson foul was a 100% nailed on yellow. Couldn't believe people were disputing it
I was booing, but only because their captain was doing all he could to try get Pearson sent off. He tried telling the ref that it was a double footed challenge, which it wasn't and then that his studs were showing, which they were (booking at best), then tried saying it was half way up the guys leg, which it wasn't, it was the top of his foot. Incredible that he didn't get booked also. Awful gamesmanship. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Agree about Scowen but there's no way you couldn't give Pearson a yellow. If he didn't then he'd have nowhere to go. If a Swindon player had done a similar challenge we'd all be baying for blood but if he hadn't booked Pearson he couldn't have booked their player
I thought both Pearson's in the first half and Scowen's in the second were daft bookings to pick up. Both challenges were made in Swindon's half of the field, so there was no immediate danger with plenty of cover available behind them. Pearson's being so early in the game meant he would have to be walking a tightrope for the rest of the match, with regards to his challenges. Thankfully, he became more disciplined and professional with his approach.
