    Absolutely diabolical ......

    Testosterone-fuelled, pre-meditated, not-footie related assault.

If Bingley Red had have been caught on CCTV doing that to Windy in Barnsley Tarn centre he'd have been up on a GBH charge.

    Thats how bad it was.

I think the powers that be will give him a 3 match ban.No attempt for the ball, eyes on the man all the time ,led with his forearm, deserves all he gets.

    "Tackle" ?

Agreed that there was momentum, but disagree totally with your use of the T word.

A tackle is an act of skill executed by proud professional footballers.

What he did was the action of a bully.

    F&&*** coward

    RE: "Tackle" ?

I'm sure the guy who was on the receiving end of the tackle might have a case here. I just can't understand why there was a need to go in with a raised arm which culminated in a forearm smash/elbow assault. Purely a personal thought

There will be loads of tackles of this type this season.

I suspect nothing will be made of any of the others.

    RE: "Tackle" ?

Tackle - Was no where near a bloody tackle. The bloke went in with his forearm and smashed it into the lads face. Speaking to a City fan and they want him out of the club, and also fans are willing to make a statement to the police which in turn means that the FA have to act and can take further action against the player.

For me, that incident was an assault.

    The disgraceful Thatcher....

Looks like he's done it all before ... punctured lung for his previous victim

REDKNAPP WANTS FA ACTION ON THATCHER

Harry Redknapp has called on the Football Association to take action against Ben Thatcher for the horror challenge which left Pedro Mendes in hospital.

Thatcher has been condemned from all quarters for the forearm challenge that sent Mendes crashing into the advertising hoardings during the second half of Manchester City's goalless draw with Portsmouth at Eastlands.

After being knocked unconscious, the former Tottenham star suffered a partial fit by the side of the pitch and required oxygen on his way to hospital.

Match of the Day pundit Mark Lawrenson labelled the challenge 'indefensible', with Gary Lineker claiming it to be 'shockingly dangerous'. Yet referee Dermot Gallagher only produced a yellow card.

Under strict FA guidelines, Thatcher should escape further sanction.

However, given the seriousness of the tackle, and the injuries Mendes sustained, Redknapp feels the FA must step in.

"The FA have to do something," stormed the Portsmouth manager. "It is there for all to see.

"I do not want to see anyone suspended but how could that possibly not be a red card? What do you have to do to get a red, kill someone?

"I like Ben. Off the field, you could not wish to meet a nicer lad. But, unfortunately, on it, he does things like that.

"As soon as I saw him running towards the ball I knew exactly what was going to happen. I would have bet my life on it."

It is not the first time Thatcher has been in trouble this season.

On the Blues' pre-season tour of China, the former Tottenham was sent off against Shanghai for two bookable offences, but not before putting an opponent in hospital with a punctured lung after a similar challenge to Wednesday night's, which also went unseen by the referee.

Without the benefit of a replay, Pearce opted not to offer an opinion on Thatcher's conduct, claiming the full-back had inquired about Mendes' health after the game.

"I certainly hope it was an accident," he added.

Pearce also revealed he had given skipper Sylvain Distin until Wednesday night to decide whether he wants to take up the offer of a move to Middlesbrough.

"So far Sylvain has not been able to agree personal terms with Middlesbrough," said Pearce.

"If the situation is still the same tomorrow evening, then he will not be leaving because I will physically not have enough time to bring someone else in.

"I have spoken to him about the situation and I believe he wants to stay with us."

5 month sentence more like !

If a Man City fan had run acroos the pitch and assaulted a Portsmouth fan at the other side, thats the sentence he would probably have been given.

We shall see everyones reaction when "one of our guys" does a "comedy tackle"

Should have been a red card , however Ref deemed it a Yellow. End of Story.

If one of our players did the same thing, I would say that he should have a long ban too!!!!

What Thatcher did was not a 'comedy tackle', it was a intentional blow to the face. A tackle involves the feet, not a forearm.

Ref got it wrong big time, and I hope the FA step in quickly.

The proximity to the advertising hoardings didnt help.

It was a poor tackle , however everyone is going over the top big time on it.

Like I said, it wasn't even a tackle. How can you class that as a tackle!?

He hardly touched the advertising board.
