Whats the place like? Looking for a holiday for next Aug/Sept taking the young un who will be one. Having to knock the long haul hols on the head for a while until he's older. Asked my dad about Benalmedena and he said he had heard it had become run down in recent years. Anyone suggest any good family places within a couple of hours flight?
Cadiz - lovely....massive beaches... great little town surrounded by water. thereev intends to retire there when the double star naps start landing!
We stayed near Marbella last October, and again at Easter Drove through Benalmadena, and to me it looks grotty. The places we stayed were part of Crown Resorts http://www.crownresorts.net/php/index.php?section=home Situated in Calahonda, just outside Marbella (8 miles). We stayed at Regency Palms in October (where the indoor pool provided an alternative if it was cold), and at Delta Mar at Easter (I preferred this site because the kids just played sport all day swimming/ five a side/ mini golf etc). A bit limited on the evening entertainment though - if that's your thing, you might be better off at Regency Palms. You can use all the sites, but they're pretty spread out. Accomodation is Ok. Nothing special, but reasonable, clean and quiet. BTW we found we could get better deals booking flights independently, and then searching for "Crown Resorts" via online agents. If you hire a car, Gibraltar is well worth a visit. We had to drag our kids kicking & screaming, but they loved it, and often ask if we can go back.
Have a look at Nerja You fly to Malaga just like when going to Benalmadena but it's east from there rather than west. It's a totally different vibe to the built up costa del sol resorts. It's an old Spanish town, pretty as a picture, no high rise hotels. Loads of quality beaches, hundreds of bars and restaurants, but it's all families and couples rather than rowdy revellers. The Spanish love to holiday there so you get loads of authentic Spanish restaurants, but there's a good proportion of Brits so all the menus are in English too and if you want to eat burgers and pizzas every day you can. Went last summer and had a great time and if you want something a bit different to the usual Brits abroad places then I'd recommend it highly.
