So predictable. Same type of player and he is around the same age as Luke. I reckon Johnson got rid of Berry because he doesn't like him as a person and he would rather have his mate from Oldham. On the website the club is just trying to direct attention away from all this.
I don't think that's fair. Rather than not liking somebody and wanting a mate at the club it makes far more sense that he simply knows kelly far better and therefore can fit him into a squad much easier. In a sense you can argue it is a bit lazy and shows johnson is managerially limited in that he would rather take the easy option but again that is nothing about personalities or friendships. It's simply knowing one more. I could fit mvoto into a back four quicker and easier than a possibly better player who I don't know as well simply because I know what he's good at and what he isn't.
We love a good conspiracy theory on here. It's quite obvious to me, from the statement on the official site that Johnson has tried to do a 'John Terry' on Berry's missus.
Really? By all accounts Berry wanted to move back down south, understood he wouldn't be a first choice centre midfielder, and Cambridge agreed to buy him back at the same price we paid for him plus a % if they sell him on at profit. In all honesty this sounds like the best deal for all parties. The lads happy, we get some cash, and Cambridge and their fans are happy. Good luck to Luke. Hope he tears L2 up. If we sign this Kelly hope he tears up L1!
It's early days but the nepotism jobs for the boys approach of Hill and Flitcroft was horrible and counterproductive. I hope that Johnson looks beyond this very limited idea and can move us forward.
I think it's quite simple. Johnson didn't see Berry as first choice & got an offer they felt was reasonable. Berry got the chance to be first choice in his hometown club in league 2 rather than a bench warmer in league 1 & took it. No conspiracies, just a case of a new manager rebuilding his squad
^This^. Probably. With a bit of 'I prefer my own signings rather than the players who were already here, even if the players I bring in are no better' thrown in from Lee Johnson. He's hardly unique in that like, but it does tend to cost money for little/no improvement. I wish more managers were prepared to work with the staff they've got.
