Honest answers only. Who in your opinion are the loudest fans ever to visit Oakwell Dont just not include Wednesday ,Leeds etc just because you dont like them , Be Honest
Sunderland one year when they were going up. They had behind the goal and the north side of the west stand. They did a few songs where the north stand sung one line, then the west stand, then the north etc. Sounded pretty impressive. Can't remember the score but they hammered us.
Newcastle United, can't remember what year but they got the upper West Stand as well as being stood up behind the goals. The "Toon, Toon, barmy army" chant was ringing out from the seated area where the posh fans were supposed to be sat.
Sunderland the year they got promoted. Back end of the 90's was it? Before the away end was built. Considering they don't fetch above a thousand, the Palace fans always make decent noise. Non-stop singing. Man City made plenty of noise in 2000, until John Curtis and Higgy scored.. And Wednesday are the loudest of the local tinpot outfits.
A lot depends on how the visitors are doing at the time. Remember Newcastle coming when they could have been relegated and they were a lot quieter than the season after when they were challenging at the other end of the table...
Remember that night well. Not least club told me over phone was sold out so watched it on Sky in what was that room bar - noticing empty home end.
Newcastle & Sunderland were both brilliant in recent years, brought massive following's sang non-stop & no crowd trouble.
Newcastle and Sunderland for me as well ,also impressed with Huddersfield fans in the drubbing on Hignetts debut ,sang all through the second half
West Brom. Remember us playing them on the evening of Good Friday, live on Sky, the season we got promoted to Premier League and they were doing a conga around the away end singing "Barnsley's going up" and "Cheer up Mark McGhee"
Manchester United's away following is second to none and trouble apart, was again a couple of years back. Man City in 2000 and 2002 were very very noisy, and yes Sunderland and Newcastle. I think when Leeds get going they're the loudest there is, it's just they've been so awful on the pitch in recent visits they haven't sang much! Cardiff in 2002 were loud and lively (too lively I guess), whilst Wednesday usually excel in terms of numbers and occasionally noise.
