Following on from the Rooney-Lineker debate, it would be interesting to see what people think is the best England XI. Pick which formation you like (I have had to be a bit artistic to get a couple in there) and you can pick players from any era. I've only gone for players I've seen so I don't have Banks, Moore or Charlton in there but for others they will be the first name on the team sheet. GK - Seaman RB - Neville LB - Cole CB - Campbell CB - Ferdinand RW - Beckham LW - Gascoigne CM - Robson CM - Platt ACM - Scholes ST - Lineker. Thoughts?
1966 World cup winning side - no other England team ever came close to that feat since. It's a no-brainer
That's not far off mine - although I wouldn't choose Subbuteo Seaman. I don't think we've had a good goalkeeper though since before I watched football.
If there had been no Munich disaster, the 1958 team would in my opinion, have won in 1958, 1962 and 1966.
Many commentators and those involved reckon the 1970 WC team was a better side. Only an illness to Banks, and a really poor substitution stopped us retaining the WC.

If we're putting together a fantasy side that spans time then I'm going to tell Ryan Giggs he's not ******* Welsh, he's English and he has to play for England. ................................. Shilton .............................. ... G. Neville ...... Butcher ........ Walker ...... Cole ... ... Beckham ..... Gascoigne .... Robson ...... Giggs ... ................. Lineker .......... Shearer ....................... Straight 4-4-2, no kissing. Shilton or Seamen, I'd be happy with either. There's half a dozen centre half pairings I could have picked, but I went with the one that got us the world cup semi final. Pearce or Cole was a tough one, but I went with pace. Paul Scholes is too ginger. I don't mean that in an abusive way, but during the summer tournaments he had hay fever and asthma and burnt to a crisp. He wasn't made for going out in the sun, so when it got hot he was crap. Rooney or Sheringham would be a good foil for both Lineker and Shearer, so they'd be decent subs. As would Platt and a young Michael Owen. If I can't have Giggs, I suppose I'll go for Waddle.
How can people choose Beckham in their best England eleven, its true what George Best said about him (To say he can't kick a ball with his left foot, can't head a ball, can't beat a man and is slow I suppose he is'nt bad
