Got a few bits I need sorting on the motor and the place I usually go are bang on for services and simple stuff, but I need a garage who can do that bit more and are a bit more savy when it comes to investigating faults, any opinions appreciated.
Auto Services at Worsborough, bloke works there who had the garage at side of Murco petrol station on park Street at Wombwell. Can't recall his name but he's dead reight. Knows his stuff, honest as day's long.
I'd recommend Enterprise on Summer Lane. Always been straight down the line with me, and the people I've pointed in their direction previously have always been happy with their service.
Well, Its an 07 Audi A3 and its been a cracking car but its starting to feel its age I think. I have an engine warning light on due to a fault on the exhaust which I believe is because I often scrape the bottom of the car accidently when parking it on my drive, Also our lass drives like a lunatic and the clutch is also due for replacing including the fly wheel. A few times a year I have to top up the oil and I have also had an engine coolant light on occasionally. So its the above along with a really good check around. I know its probably going to be a grand plus to sort so I want to get the best value and knowhow posible.
Mines alright. It's pebbledashed with a corrugated steel roof. Needs a tidy up though, it's full of crap.
For the warning lights I would suggest EMP behind the Summer lane petrol station, I have used them a few times, top notch on car electrics, a lot of main agents contract them in. The engine light for the exhaust is probably down to a faulty lambda sensor on the exhaust but there will be more than one so it would need specialist equipment to find it, could also be a faulty ECU, same with the coolant light ( unless it's down to coolant loss ). Any decent mechanic could do the clutch and investigate the oil loss, I use P&P Auto's Commercial Street Barnsley, always been satisfied with his work.
If the lambda warning light is on it could also indicate a knackered Cat. It's unlikely to be the ECU only 0.8% of ECUs which are diagnosed as faulty are actually faulty.
Diesel Particulate filter on exhaust could be clogged. Best idea would be get it drilled through as replacements just get clogged again. (Happened with my 07 Golf - had it done at a place down Manvers....can't think of the name at the minute but it's off the roundabout at Old Moor) EDIT : M-TEC Diagnostics
You're right, I just assumed, because he didn't say otherwise, that his emissions where ok. Didn't know that about ECU's, I must have been one of the out of pocket unlucky 0.8%, lol.
Thanks so much lads, you have given me some top advice, much appreciated. Also it's a petrol 1.6 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I used Citroen figures for ECU failure. I have been on manufacturers training courses and use to lecture in MV Engineering. The ECU is something which some garages often blame when they can't diagnose the fault. Too many garges swap parts rather than do a thorough diagnosis. I know of people who have been charge £2000+ because the garage has been unable to identify the fault and they have just changed parts.
Aye, main agents couldn't fathom my problem (spasmodic total battery drain ) so went to EMP and after monitoring it for hours it just started draining the battery big style, anyway, by pulling fuses they found it was the rear screen demister that had just turned on and eventually isolated the ecu as the cause and replaced it, fault cured.
Battery drains can also be caused by simple things like boot and glove compartment lights staying on. A mobile phone set to video can be useful in locating this type of fault. Garages forget to look at the basics first.
