Maplin - BUT though PC World is crap, their prices for networking stuff aint bad. ICON computers up Sheffield Road is another. How about Darton Computers up Kexbro?
PC World usually good so why no want to hear? Otherwise try Comet. Usually reasonable on network products I notice a wireless router was suggested so if you buy a laptop later you won't need a new one. This sounds sensible. Hovever, as I said before, wireless routers allow both wired and wireless connections. If your second PC is a desktop would you be planning to wire it in or fit a wireless network card to it. From your earlier post, the Realtek NIC is a network card already fitted for wired access.
Ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/home...3&action=c2hvd2ZlYXR1cmVkX3N0b3Jlcw==&stid=8& worth a look?
Right then. That's made me mind up. Wired it is. They can put their wireless routers right in their PC World bottoms. I live in a bungalow anyway so I'll run a wire through the old toys and suitcases and save myself all the grief.
Yeah but no but Cheap but I tend not to recommend them to the not-so-technically minded. They offer no support aftersales support whatsoever and when I used to buy from them, regularly cocked up my order and sent the wrong things. When things go wrong like this, they really don't want to know you and so I've stopped using them.
OK, you'll need a router and some network cable. Since wired routers are only like £15 cheaper than the wireless equivalent, you could do as Omen says and buy a wireless one for later use but wire the 2 PC's you have to it. Linskys WRT54G looks a good router for the money. You'll also need a CAT5e Network Patch Cable long enough to reach the other PC. Although I said I don't recommend Ebuyer, they are cheap for cabling and do have a good user friendly website. http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=45023 for the router http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...vd3N1YmNhdGVnb3J5X3BhZ2U=&subcat_uid=1204 should find you a cable. Should be OK for an order like this I reckon.
PC World "Web Prices" If you go to the PC world web site and make your purchase there (using a credit card), you will get MUCH a better price than in the store. You can then go down to the store and collect your items. HTH Stephen
RE: PC World "Web Prices" Yes, done it - but you have to pay at the store, you just reserve your items, and give them your reservation number.
RE: Oh, you can even pay at the store? Yes. Got a Compact Flash Card and a Hard drive last week. You have a day to pick up the items.
Get it from insight uk if you can - no messing about. Ebuyer is a ******* for returns if theres a problem. Other good one is aria.co.uk Take you didnt get sorted then! PC world are pretty pants and last resort for me unless i just need summert v quick!
