No disrespect to anyone on here as today -like all days - we see some excellent and well thought out comments (amongst a decent portion of the BS!!) .........but read this. I think this encapsulates not just the Morgan incident but also football -and in particular Sheff U and Blackwell- from a wider perspective (taken from a rival board): ***************************************************************************************** Sheff U & Blackwell- A disgrace to football Championship Barnsley by PoggiRedCharlieBL (U4258029) 10 November 2008 For the last 18 months Sheff Utd have pursued compensation from West Ham over the ‘Tevez affair’. IMO rightly so, as West Ham blatantly flaunted the rules and the inquiry’s findings were pathetic. Sheff Utd have been VERY vocal during this time in making their case through legal channels and media outlets. After relegation they became almost a ‘self-pity’ city (while half-a-city), with the Sheffield Star prominent in campaigning to get the club re-instated to the Prem and ‘justice for fans’ etc. One theme running through their argument was that the example of West Ham was one of London/big club bias. Yet here we are…Following Saturday’s game, Blackwell comes out and says: "A lot of tackles went in but, you know, it's up to the ref. If he'd have picked every one we'd have had no-one left on the pitch, that's for sure "We've had some outrageous decisions against us this season, penalties not given etc…’ IMO Blackwell was lucky to get the Utd job in the first place having walked out on his home town club when they went into administration. Sheff Utd at this time had amassed an excellent Championship squad but made the mistake of appointing the useless Robson. When Robson went, Blackwell seemed somewhat of a ‘safe’ temporary option to steady the ship. Fact was, he couldn’t lose as he inherited an outstanding squad who were drastically under-performing in the division. Hence, anyone with an ounce of managerial ability could have improved results and performances - which Blackwell did - and he therefore he got the job full time. At which point he disappeared up his own b*ckside….. His conduct in obtaining Howard’s services lacked class; going on TV saying he had signed the player when the deal wasn’t even done was a poor show. Like Sheff Utd PLC after the West Ham affair, he appeared to have developed a hefty case of ‘chip-on-shoulder’ Warnock used to be annoying at times, but in a situation like this he would have sorted Morgan out ASAP (as he did on one occasion I recall whilst he was manager, labelling Morgan a ‘disgrace’ after a sending off a couple of years back and wishing his replacement would do well so as to ‘prove his point’ to Morgan). After Thatcher assaulted Mendes last year Stuart Pearce had the decency to fine and suspend the player. Why haven’t Blackwell and Sheff Utd acted yet? Surely if they saw the same evidence as was broadcast on Calendar tonight they would be shamed into action? Blackwell seems arrogant, along with several members of Utd’s squad (Beattie, Speed & Morgan). The over zealous celebrations after Beatties opener were sickening, and yet the ‘referee’ let it go even though as he was waiting on the half way line Utd players were still jogging into the Barnsley half for their love-in!! Having now seen Morgan’s ‘challenge’ several times on TV I am even more incensed than immediately after the match. The elbow came well before the ball. I hope Barnsley take legal action. If Sheff Utd felt football justice was achievable through the courts, then it is time they felt such justice working against them as well. Morgan may claim there was no intent and I would perhaps agree as I don’t think he intended any major injury to Hume. However, his ‘style’ of play is downright dangerous and he should understand the possible consequences of his actions, which in this case, was a life-threatening injury (I’m old enough to remember the infamous Fashanu/Mabbutt incident so I’m sure Morgan is). There is no place in football for blatant elbows. Morgan must have known that the elbow he threw may have hurt Hume even if there was no intention to do serious damage, which therefore makes him culpable. My opinions are borne out of what happened Saturday, not any pre-conceived ‘hatred’ of Sheff U – they were before Saturday a distant third in terms of SY teams I most wanted to beat this season! Sheff U have excellent players who should ensure the team competes at the top of the league, however, they spoiled themselves on Saturday. I believe this stems from a sense of ‘us-against-the-world’ emanating from the PLC chairman and manifesting itself as downright arrogance in the form of the first team manager and senior players. Plain and simple, Sheffield United Football Club lack any class whatsoever. As for Andy D’Urso; I seriously hope that the FA and Football league look at the evidence shown on Calendar tonight as they simply MUST act on this terrible performance from a clearly incompetent official. D’Urso AND Morgan should be suspended whilst a full investigation is held. This was D'Urso favouring a bigger club...sound familiar!? Before Sheff U fans start laying into me (and I understand you may be angry by what I have wrote but I have been thinking about this since Saturday and after all, this is only MY opinion) can I just say, ABOVE ALL ELSE, that I wish Iain Hume a full and timely recovery
