It doesn't have to be an attacking player and a defensive one - just the best two you have seen in your time as a Barnsley fan.

As a duo-Ronnie Glavin & Ian Banks. Individually, Ronnie Glavin, then Neil Redfearn.

It's a shame that players like Redders (and Bryan Robson) have become obsolete and replaced by today's modern midfielders who unfortunately can't do much else.

What's tha know ? Redfearn then Glavin. but as an attacking pair Glav and banger (with mention in dispatches to McHale whose defensive work let the other two get forward)

Cant remember glavin or banks first time around it may have just been before my time. Started going in 1983/1984.

There don't seem to be any complete central midfielders anymore do there? Or very few anyway. They're either attackers who can't defend, defensive but get a nosebleed over the halfway line, or can't attack or defend properly, like some close to home...

History and official polls suggest Redfearn and Glavin.

2 defenders or 2 strikers a harder debate

    Ronnie Glavin and Ian Banks.

Neil Refearn had two very good seasons and played in the Premier League. But Ronnie was just special.

Glavin and Redders with Banger a close third.

Neil Redfearn was as good a Barnsley captain as I've seen, matched only by Eric Winstanley.

That's something we can definitely agree on. Apart from the Winstanley bit as I never saw him play.

Just as a side point, was Winstanley the first defender to score a hat-trick in a league game?*

    *That might be completely wrong.
