Best - Charlton at home in the promotion season to the Premier League ( 4-0 i think it finished)

Worst - Charlton at home in Flicker great escape season

Best - I'm dithering between the League Cup victory over Manchester City, the FA Cup victories over Manchester United & Chelsea and the 7-1 thumping of Huddersfield Town.
Worst - Easy. Our 1-0 defeat at home to perennial strugglers Workington during our Fourth Division days in the Autumn of 1974.

I think some of our performances last season against the liked of Shrewsbury, Crewe and Fleetwood were worse than that one.

A couple under Wilson stand out as well. That home game to Chester was appalling. The Leeds game we lost on the back of a big away win at Charlton.

The players were dead on their feet for the Charlton game after picking up 2 massive draws away at Palace and then Cardiff in midweek.

The few I've listed above were just nothingness. Soul destroying to watch with no other reason than poor management, a few bad players and a massive lack of self belief.

Birmingham City 1995-96 season where we lost 5-0, the worst (and it could have been more!)

Best... a toincoss between Man City and Charlton in 96/7.

Best, the 7-1 win over Huddersfield. We could have been 38 nil up at half time.

Worst, from memory, the game where Keith Hill I think it was got sacked. Was it a 3-1 home defeat to Reading? That was as bad a game as I've seen at home.

To be honest I can think of many worse away from home than I can at home. Our last visit to the stadium of light being one; we only lost 2-0 but it was the worst game of football I've had the misfortune to witness.

Best 7-1 win over Huddersfield got to be up top or when we beat man city 2-1 infront of just short of a full house under Bassett was good as they were 2nd we were 3rd and we had just beaten a top team.

Worst. 4-0 to wigan under flicker was positive about the season until that happend on opening day.also Chester under Wilson leeds under Wilson were also bad and not to mention the 2-0 fa cup defeat to boro under Wilson we could have been still playing now and wouldn't have scored.

I think it was Blackburn. Craig Davies missed a penalty in the match before against Birmingham.

I think Flicker might have got sacked after losing to Birmingham.

Wow some really awful games there. The Wigan result/performance relegated us on the first day.

The 2-0 to boro was just the performance and the negitivite tactics I brought my dad to oakwell the man who got me into it all. He used to be a regular many moons ago but hadn't been for a few years before I took him to that game. He was shocked by how negotiate and boring to watch it was from the man who gave us the chant "its just like watching brazil" good job I didn't take him to donny away that season don't think he would have spoke to me again lol

Best: 3-0 vs Hull 06-07. Istvan running the show.
Worst: 0-0 vs S****horpe League Cup 1st round 13/14. Won on pens after both teams miss like 5 each. Didn't even shoot, was painful viewing.

Best: Beating dem blades in 1995 is up there. We were still 6th and in with a chance of a playoff place, had big Mal Shotton standing in at centre half, my hero O'Connell scored two crackers, in front of a three sided Oakwell, Ponty End in rubble, ahhh, what a game that was. It was on ITV the next day, highlights and that.

Despite the relegation and a squad containing some right numpties, the 3-0 win against Wednesday in December of 2001 was special. We arseholed em. Sheron played out of his skin. Our fans were in joyous mood, Pressman copped for some right flak. Start of a long unbeaten run I think, not that it made a difference in the end.

The Man Utd, Chelsea and Spurs FA Cup nights were extraordinary. Against the latter we were a joy to watch. Barnard and Ward especially. But the best performance I've witnessed at Oakwell was the 7-1 dicking of Huddersfield. For obvious reasons.

Worst: Leeds under Danny Wilson in our last season at this level was horrendous, as were so many under Flicker that season too. Keith's last few months and games were a difficult watch, but in fairness we were often the better side but done on a set piece 1-0 or 2-1. Depressing more than they were 'worst' performance. Mansfield in 2002 was depressing too, 1-0 defeat, Andy White with the winner. A ******* low ebb that particular period was.

But I'm going to go with the 2-0 defeat to dem blades under Johnson. We were on a good run, things had clicked, off the back of a decent point away at Bristol and he decides to play Winnall out wide and seemingly ask our lads to play hoofball. It was horrific viewing, made all the worse listening to 6,000 deedars for 60 odd minutes. Didn't win another game til it didn't matter (5-0 vs Dale final day). From that match until the Altrincham defeat this season just gone, all games included, it's hard to think of a worst run of games following Barnsley. Yet we ended up promoted. Good ol Hecky.

Best: I'm going to go for Chelsea in 2008 simply because the effort was simply outstanding
Another close call was Newcastle in 2009 because we went behind early and it looked like we'd get thrashed. The fantastic effort was there to see and when Bobby got that late equaliser it was sensational!

Many other contenders from other recent good runs though: first half of first season under Hill; 2nd half of great escape season and of course 2nd half of this season

Worst: Can't think of any others than those mentioned on here. Going to go with Leedsin relegation season

It was the game Davey got sacked then. I knew someone bit the bullet off the back of it.

The Sheffield United at home performance the season before last has to be a contender also. Completely spineless off of the back of 5 straight wins as well.

Best - the 2-0 win against the Blunts in 96-97 on Sky was one of the most complete performances I've ever seen, in a very high pressure game, as indeed was the playoff final against Millwall. For sheer guts, the playoff semi against Huddersfield was also up there. Just noticed you stipulated "at Oakwell". Oh well!

As for worst - does anyone remember losing 1-0 at home to Watford on Sky, either just before or just after Bassett left? It was so cold it was insane, and it's the only match I've ever left early with a deficit of only one goal. The 0-0 at home to Grimsby on New Years Day after no sleep was also pretty soul destroying. But nothing can top the 2-0 defeat at home to Norwich which relegated us in 2002. Oh how I hated those players with a passion, apart from Bruce Dyer.

Best. 4-1 against Donny 08-09. JCR ran them ragged in the second half after we all thought Davey was going to get the chop when trailing 1-0 and a man down

Worst 3-0 against Wendies when Davey played Rob Williams (left back) in midfield. Then he got appointed permanent manager after. It was a sign of things to come.
