Just been having this argument with my friend who is a Yank, he says that if people could carry CONCEALED guns, the this tragedy would not have happened because one of the teachers could have shot the gunman!
He cant seem to grasp the fact that they are allowed guns in the first place is the problem, I said it is too easy to get a gun over there and he says they need guns to protect themselves against others that have guns !! No fecking wonder the USA is so fecked up!

It makes sense when you think about it. If you have a problem with guns, what you need to do is throw some more guns at the situation, that will solve it. In fact, what they should do is arm every man, women and child in America then that would complete get rid of the problem.

That was the point he was trying to make, if everyone had a gun then they could shoot any gunman that threatened them! Just couldn`t, well wouldn`t accept the problem was with any of them having guns at all. America armed itself during the Civil War and basically never gave them up. It is such an enormous industry it is unlikely they ever will. Certainly would never happen under a Republican presidency as Lockheed Martin is one of their biggest financial supporters. Obama is the best hope for change but it would take years to get anything past Congress.

It is ridiculous, I wouldn't let the public have fireworks if I had my way let alone guns.

The gun laws over here are plain stupid in most states but not all.

Here in maryland is the law

Gun laws in Maryland regulate the sale, possession, and use of firearms and ammunition in the state of Maryland in the United States

Detachable magazines capable of holding more than 20 rounds may not be manufactured or sold, though they may be possessed. Certain pistols are banned and are defined as "assault pistols." Any of the "assault pistols" on the list are lawful to possess only if they were registered prior to August 1, 1994.[1] Only handguns on the official handgun roster may be sold in the state. Private sales of "regulated firearms," which includes handguns, are prohibited. The day after thanksgiving we have sales here in the states called black friday sales. This year over 250,000 guns were sold on black friday alone.

The law does need changing but like any where if someone wants to get hold of a gun or 2 they will.

 

I thought it stated they had the right to bear arms? God knows where they find all the bears. And yes, they should change the constitution. What was right for then doesn't make it right for now

 

I've had to stop reading the comments on facebook news posts, it angers me, not good for the blood pressure.

If I see one more comment such as "well, cars kill people so ban cars" I'll most likely have a mental breakdown.

The argument about "more guns" as well - even saw a so-called political commentator on American news arguing that case, and even saying that if other people had guns in the cinema in Colorado....even someone arguing against him saying "well, it's dark, you'd get other people being hit in the crossfire" he then replied "well, that's hypothetical", like his point wasn't!

Don't lump everyone in with the gun lobby though, I know many people who want more regulation. It's not about banning guns completely but about having greater restrictions on who can own and what they can own.

It's going to be difficult but I hope they can do something.
