Barnsley Football Club have today confirmed that Jonathan Bland has been recalled from his loan spell at Peterborough Sports. The 19-year-old joined Peterborough Sports on loan earlier this season and has made a positive impact with the Vanarama National League club. During his time at the club, Bland gained valuable first-team experience, featuring 24 times for the Turbines. Jonathan Bland will now return to Oakwell and be integrated back into Barnsley’s first-team squad for the remainder of the season. Everyone at Barnsley FC would like to thank Peterborough Sports for their cooperation and wish Jonathan all the best as he returns to Oakwell. Continue reading...
Don't really get the logic. 24 appearances means he must have got plenty of first team experience. If he's been recalled it suggests he's injured rather than us suddenly wanting to drop him in the match day squad.
It said he will be integrated in the 1st team squad for the rest of the season, so I doubt it is an injury recall.
Is he a midfielder? Does it suggest we've got a couple of injuries in his position? If he's not getting in the matchday squad and he isn't injured, that's a strange situation.
Is he the lad that played in one of the games at Huddersfield earlier in the season? If so, I thought he looked very good.
Odd decision to recall someone from tier 6 to join our promotion push. He was doing fine where he was.
Although he is listed on the 'Net' as a midfielder I think he played as a defender when he captained the U18s. So he may be cover for injuries and suspensions.
There’ll be good reason for it. This’ll be a culmination of Hassell, Mladen and Clarke deciding what’s best for the player and club. Perhaps they’re thinking of next season, and want to see how he battles it out for the final part of this season. You need to understand how he’s developed and if/how he’ll fit in next season. Thats difficult to see when playing elsewhere at a lower level with lesser quality players around him. His work now until the end of the season perhaps defines his future with us…….
Cracking young lad is Jono. Very professional, driven and captained the youth teams well in recent years. Think he’s played internationally too. Holding midfielder, but can play a bit. That’s where I’d see him, but he’s played centre half as well.
Dunno like I say don’t know where he plays? MDG & Lewis out. Recalling someone cos they are injured seems odd, it would be returned for treatment not recalled surely? Not sure what tier Peterborough sports are either
Perhaps a top National league team want him and he's off out on loan again. I think they can sign till late March.
Only heard good things about this lad, hopefully the games played at Peterborough Sports will have given him some of that physical steel required to compete well. (Is that where Luke Steele is manager?) It's really about time the academy started getting players to the level where they are an option. Stones and Holgate are pretty much the only two players to have added that value financially to the club in best part of 30 years now, and we didn't really get the benefit of their development to help in progress the first team as we lost them almost instantly. Then I'm struggling to name many who have come through our ranks and just done enough to make a good impact on our first team. Surely we need to see better results. So 100% behind Bland if he gets the game time.
Its about time we used the academy lads in the positions we're obviously short. One big gripe against Clarke imho.
