Barnsley Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of USA international Jonathan Lewis until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

The 27-year-old has a wealth of experience in the MLS having initial been drafted by New York City FC in 2017 SuperDraft. Lewis went on to make 34 appearances for NYC before joining Colorado Rapids where he made over 160 appearances scoring 30 goals and picking up 12 assists during that period. During his time in the MLS, Lewis also had loan spells with Louisville City and Colorado Rapids II.

Known for operating on the left wing or as a centre forward, Lewis has made 8 full international appearances for the USMNT after also representing his country at U20 and U23 level. During his time in the full international side, he scored 2 goals as well as provided assists for a further two.

He’s quick, he has the ability to score goals as well as create opportunities and he has a good level of experience in the US domestically and as an international. - Mladen Sormaz (Sporting Director, Mladen Sormaz on Jonathan Lewis)

Whilst Jonathan was born in Atlanta, his mother is English and in 2015 he had a brief spell in Bradford City’s academy.

Barnsley FC Sporting Director Mladen Sormaz said, “After the window closed, we took a look at the free agents available and Jonathan stood out as a player we feel can help us. He’s quick, he has the ability to score goals as well as create opportunities and he has a good level of experience in the US domestically and as an international. The MLS season is about to start and Jonathan had been training with Toronto ahead of the new campaign so we know he has a decent level of fitness and should be in a position to make an impact straight away. We welcome Jonathan to Oakwell for we hope will be a successful spell.”

"I'm excited to be here," smiled Lewis. "I'm just, you know, already ready for the matches to come up and just try to help the team to get into the play-offs. I'm excited for it all.

"To be with a top Club in League One, be able to compete for the playoff spots and be able to compete with big clubs in this league - I'm excited about that."

The full interview with our newest recruit will soon be available to view in full on iFollow Barnsley!

Good player absolutely rapid, good pedigree, disappointed only until EOS, thought we would have gone longer but perhaps player didn't want to commit beyond this, anyway all in all this guy will improve us.

33 goals in 6 seasons 4 in each of the last 2. On average scores every 6 or 7 games. Once again we've signed a striker whose not been a prolific goal scorer at any point of his career. Just another panic signing to go with the others we've made

Good luck fella. We probably need 10 goals out of you by the end of the season to stand a chance.

No, I just ignored the ******** spouted by the oakwell spinmasters. He's a left winger.

But then remember bfc also claimed DKD was a striker and humphreys and rodriguez

    from USsoccer.com:
A winger with plenty of pace, whether on or off the field, Jonathan Lewis always seems to be on the move

    Transfermarkt:
    Position: Left Winger

    wiki:
Jonathan Jeremy Lewis (born June 4, 1997) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a winger for Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids.

    mlssoccer.com:
The Colorado Rapids have signed winger Jonathan Lewis to a new contract

    Denver Post:
Colorado Rapids trade for USMNT winger Jonathan Lewis

waking the red: (toronto fc website)
Toronto FC linked with Colorado Rapids winger Jonathan Lewis

    burgundy wave: (colorado rapids site)
Jonathan Lewis is a free agent for the first time in his career. He’s been a good servant to the club. He’s occasionally misunderstood. When he’s on, he’s the best winger on the team.

    fox sports:
Both parties are expected to hold talks during the offseason to determine whether the winger will remain with the club or not.

He may or may not turn out a good signing but he’s absolutely not a striker. He’s a 5ft 7 winger….

Have you ever considered he might be coming in to play as part of the forward line and not necessarily as an out and out striker, gives Clarke options now to play 343, 3421 or 3412, if you look at the free market options he was certainly one of the better ones that was (1) attainable wages wise (2) played at a decent standard (3) still pretty fit (4) wanted to join (5) has pace (6) can play wide or as a centre forward.
The positives far out way any negatives, Woodrow poor record before us
Morris poor record before us in fact Ashley Ward was less than 1 in 4 at Derby before joining us as a PL club

Your theory is good but we don’t have an out an out striker at all in the playing squad right now. Ok, someone will say Max Watters but I’d use the term lightly and he’s injured for at least the next 3 or 4 games.

2 goals against Trinidad & Tobago in a 7-0 win, 4 years ago. Is that it?

I suspect the plan is to play Humphrys as the focal central point of a 3, weather that's 2 wide of him or 2 behind it gives DC options now, personally think he'll bench Rodrigues and start Lewis and DKD behind Humphrys.

Time will tell, all I'm saying is people were saying let's get different options available and pace, we've done that, were now nitpicking again at scoring records, somevprevious signings over years has put this theory to bed, Morris, woodrow etc.
He is probably more winger based than CF, the plan is to probably go 343, 3421 or 3412.
Who knows I'm not the Head coach, all I do know is, there wasn't much out there that would get a work permit, be relatively fit, add some pace, wanted to join and within budget.
I'll await your suggestions who was realistically attainable.

We are at it again, judging players before they even start training.

Humphrys isn’t a striker either. We seem to be collecting wingers and no10s but have some kind of problem with out and out strikers. Sorry but it’s just bonkers.

I dont see the point. When we are scrabbling around in desperation, does he really offer anything more than Dyer, Nzondo, Alker or even Marsh.
Might as well save a few more pennies and see if that money pit of an Academy can produce anything more than a John Stones.

It appears he gets quite a lot of assists. Probably because he's a winger. And his goal return for a winger isn't too bad. We've claimed he can play as a striker and he probably can. He's a professional footballer, an attacking professional footballer, he will be able to adapt to play in other positions.. But I doubt he's done it all that much and I also doubt he's anywhere near as good a striker as he is a winger. He looks like a decent winger too. Pity we've no strikers to get on the end of his crosses.

Here he is playing as a winger

Oh and he's 5 foot 7 inch tall

You've totally ignored everything I've said, if we play 343 he can play wide left, if we play 3412 he can play left of the 2, if we play 3421 he can play behind Humphrys.

I'll ask again who was attainable in the free market that could could in that fits the Budget?
Nobody's doubting that Jan was a failure but its been and gone, so here we are, does it mean because folk are still p***ed off anything we do from now on isn't good enough and everyone we sign are ***k without ever having seen them play?
You find a striker that's fit, can get a permit that's affordable and let everyone know.

He wasn't bad was he for 5ft 4
