Barnsley Football Club is pleased to confirm the signing of full-back Nathanael Ogbeta on a season-long loan from Plymouth Argyle, subject to EFL registration. The 24-year-old began his career in Manchester City’s academy before joining Shrewsbury Town in January 2021 on an 18-month deal. The energetic, left-sided player then made a permanent move to Swansea City, where he subsequently enjoyed loan spells at Peterborough United and Bolton Wanderers. Last summer, the former England U20 international signed a two-year contract with Plymouth Argyle, making 17 Championship appearances during the 2023/24 season. Upon joining the Reds on loan for the season, Ogbeta said: “I’m delighted to join the Club and I’m looking forward to getting going with the lads. “Currently, I’m in London because I’m getting married at the weekend! But I’m excited to join the lads next week and getting started.” Sporting Director Mladen Sormaz commented: “Nathanael joins us with a fantastic pedigree, having played a good number of Championship games last season at Plymouth. His ability to defend, combined with his athleticism, makes him an ideal candidate for Conor’s squad, and we are delighted to have him on board at this early stage of pre-season.” Head Coach Conor Hourihane added: “I’m really excited by the signing of Nathanael. He has good EFL experience for a player of his age, and he brings depth to the squad, which is essential. He’ll link up with the rest of the squad next week, and we’re delighted to have him here.” Ogbeta becomes Barnsley’s second signing of the summer, following the arrival of Murphy Cooper on Monday. Welcome to Oakwell, Nathanael. Continue reading...
Not heard many good things from Bolton and Plymouth fans about him but hopefully he proves them wrong!
Has anyone noticed that on the little video cameo introduction of the signing of Ogbeta, by himself, the spelling of Barnsley is incorrect on the adjoining text. It's been spelt Barnlsey.
