    • Barnsley Vs. Huddersfield Town - Sat, Aug 30 2025, 15:00

The Reds came away with an impressive 3-1 win at Oakwell against Huddersfield Town, courtesy of a Luca Connell goal and a Davis Keillor-Dunn double.

It was the Reds who had the first chance of the game, as in the fifth minute the ball found itself out to Luca Connell, who was unmarked on the edge of the box. The Reds captain took a touch before delivering a thunderous strike from twenty yards that required an impressive save from Owen Goodman.

In the ninth minute, the early Reds pressure paid off as the home side took the lead; some patient play deep inside the Huddersfield half resulted in Nathanael Ogbeta whipping the ball in. Goodman looked to collect the ball but could only parry it into the path of Davis Keillor-Dunn, who tapped home from close range.

Just minutes later the visitors looked sure to level; a long ball found Ben Wiles in a one-on-one, but Jonathan Bland stuck with him all the way and recovered with a heroic block to preserve the Reds' clean sheet.

In the twenty-third minute, the visitors worked a set piece to the edge of the box before a teasing delivery was met well by Joe Low, who rose highest, but his effort didn’t have the required accuracy to trouble Murphy Cooper’s goal.

In the twenty-ninth minute, the Reds looked to double their lead; some neat play between Adam Phillips and Caylan Vickers resulted in the latter hanging up an inviting ball to the back post, but the delivery whistled agonisingly over David McGoldrick’s head, who was steaming in to head home from close range.

In the thirty-sixth minute, Owen Goodman was dismissed; a long-range Jack Shepherd ball caused the goalkeeper to come rushing out, McGoldrick was first to the ball, and the Huddersfield shot-stopper clattered into the forward man, leaving the referee with little choice but to give Goodman his marching orders.

Just moments before halftime, the Reds doubled their lead. A corner delivery was cleared, but only as far as Luca Connell on the edge of the box. The midfielder tried his luck, and courtesy of a slight deflection on its way, the ball found itself in the back of the net, past the despairing dive of the substitute Lee Nicholls.

    Halftime- Barnsley 2-0 Huddersfield Town

In the fifty-fifth minute, Caylan Vickers expertly found David McGoldrick with a ball over the top, but the forward man miscontrolled, and the ball was gratefully gathered by Nicholls.

Much of the second period produced little to no chances for either side. The Reds controlled possession well and looked to take advantage of their extra man.

In the eighty-fourth minute, the Reds looked to have wrapped up all three points through Davis Keillor-Dunn before the linesman raised his flag for offside. Some intricate play resulted in Ogbeta squaring across the box for Keillor-Dunn, who applied the finishing touch but was judged to have strayed offside.

Just a minute later, the game was all but done as Keillor-Dunn had the ball in the net yet again, and this time, the forward man was onside. Adam Phillips tried his luck from a distance with an arrowing strike; Nicholls produced a fine stop, but only into the path of Keillor-Dunn, who made no mistake with the rebound.

The visitors did get themselves on the scoresheet in the eighty-seventh minute; a loose Ogbeta pass was pounced upon by Joe Taylor, who made no mistake when one-on-one with Murphy Cooper.
