The Reds continued their pre-season preparations on Saturday afternoon at the Exercise Stadium, running out 3-0 winners against Harrogate Town AFC.

The Reds were quick to spring into action, and on eight minutes the scoring was opened by Jack Shepherd. An enticing corner delivery was whipped into the box by Nathanael Ogbeta, and Shepherd rose highest to deliver a thumping header to give the Reds the lead.

Barnsley almost doubled their lead just five minutes later. Some sharp play from David McGoldrick freed Jon Russell in midfield; the ball was then worked to Adam Phillips, who tried his luck from the edge of the box, but the angle proved to be just too narrow, and his effort whistled past the post of the Harrogate goalkeeper.

The home side’s first effort of note came midway through the first half, with some intricate play on the edge of the Reds box resulting in a strike that was dragged well wide of Murphy Cooper’s goal. Harrogate looked sure to level up the score when a high press dispossessed Jonathan Bland of the ball, but the forward's effort from ten yards sailed high and wide of the Barnsley goal.

Just before the interval the Reds doubled their lead. An expertly weighted pass by Davis Keillor-Dunn set David McGoldrick one-on-one, and the forward man delivered a cool, cultured, chipped finish to grab his first Barnsley goal.

The beginning of the second period brought very little to report; the first effort on goal came from a quick Reds counterattack.

Tenacious play by Yoganathan won the ball before feeding Leo Farrell, who drove and tried his luck, but the effort lacked the power to trouble the opposition 'keeper.

Another effort came from the Reds on the seventy-fifth minute, as Vimal Yoganathan neatly turned on the ball before delivering a strike from the edge of the box which stung the palms of the goalkeeper.

The pressure was beginning to pile on the home side; this time another Reds corner caused trouble, as a Marc Roberts header was cleared off the line.

On the 86th-minute mark, the Reds made it three. Davis Keillor-Dunn expertly brought the ball down before teeing up Yoganathan, who struck a curling effort from twenty yards that nestled in the top corner.
