    • Barnsley Vs. Bolton Wanderers - Sat, Aug 16 2025, 15:00
Barnsley held on for a 1-1 draw against Bolton Wanderers at Oakwell on Saturday afternoon, despite going down to ten early in the second half.

It was a quick start to the game, with the visitors hitting the Reds on a quick counterattack. Thierry Gale found himself with space to run into before finding Amario Cozier-Duberry on the opposite flank. The winger looked to have a favourable one-on-one opportunity, but Murphy Cooper came rushing out and bravely smothered the ball.

The first chance for the Reds came in the form of a Davis Keillor-Dunn free-kick. The forward man tried his luck from range, but Teddy Sharman-Lowe did well to parry the ball wide of any danger.

On the nineteenth minute, the Reds fashioned another set-piece chance; a wicked Luca Connell corner delivery was flicked on at the front post by Adam Phillips, and Jack Shepherd was the first to make contact with the ball. The defender knew very little about it however, and the ball cannoned off him and resulted in a Bolton Wanderers goal kick.

On the twenty-eight minute, the Reds nearly took the lead; a sublime, free-flowing move resulted in Nathanael Ogbeta whipping in a dangerous cross. David McGoldrick was at the back post to meet it, but his first-time volley was just wide of the target.

On the stroke of half-time, the visitors threatened the Reds’ goal; some loose play from Jack Shepherd presented the Whites with the ball, and they worked it out to Cozier-Duberry, who cut inside and delivered a dipping strike that just sailed over Murphy Cooper’s net.

    Half-time: Barnsley 0-0 Bolton Wanderers

It was the perfect start to the second forty-five for the Reds as they went a goal to the good. An inch-perfect clip up the field by Connell set McGoldrick through one-on-one, and the veteran forward man made no mistake in converting the chance.

It was almost the perfect response from the away side; a free kick caused trouble in the Reds box, Burstow leaped highest to flick the ball on, and a Wanderers player was first to connect with a header that rebounded back off the post.

On the fifty-second minute, the Reds took a real blow as Vimal Yoganathan was given his second yellow card for an untimely challenge and was subsequently dismissed by the referee.

Despite being a man down, the Reds looked to double their advantage, and on the seventy first minute, a pinpoint Luca Connell switch of play found Adam Phillips out wide; he expertly brought the ball under control before teeing up Patrick Kelly, who let fly from twenty yards, but his shot was wayward and off target.

Bolton were almost back on level terms in the eighty-third minute, as the ball was hung up to the back post and met well by Jordi Osei-Tutu, whose powerful volley was brilliantly cleared off the line by Shepherd. The Bolton persistence paid off on the eighty-sixth minute, as a corner delivery was met by John McAtee, who turned the ball in to level the score.
