Barnsley were held to a draw against Peterborough United on Easter Monday at Oakwell. The visitors took the lead in the 17th minute when Jones finished off a sharp counter-attack, giving Posh an early advantage despite an encouraging start from the Reds. Just minutes earlier, Adam Phillips had come close to opening the scoring with a powerful drive from distance, which Jed Steer managed to tip onto the post. Barnsley responded well to the setback, growing into the game and creating several chances. Davis Keillor-Dunn nearly levelled after a clever move involving a floated ball from Jordan Roberts and a cushioned header from Phillips. The pressure continued, with Keillor-Dunn testing Steer from a direct free-kick before Barry Cotter drew a smart stop from the Posh keeper after a cutting run inside from the left. Deep into first-half stoppage time, the Reds found their reward. Jon Russell struck a sensational effort from distance that flew into the top corner, sending the Oakwell faithful into raptures and ensuring the sides went in level at the break. HALF-TIME: Barnsley 1–1 Peterborough United The second half began with concern for the Reds as Fabio Jalo was forced off on 57 minutes after an awkward fall in a tussle with Peterborough's Mills. Russell nearly repeated his first-half heroics with another long-range effort that curled narrowly wide. As the game wore on, Barnsley pushed for a winner. Barry Cotter was replaced by young forward Jonathan Bland with under 10 minutes remaining, and the substitute nearly made an immediate impact. In the fourth of 10 minutes added on, some lovely interplay down the right saw Bland whip in a teasing delivery for Keillor-Dunn, who couldn’t quite steer his effort on target. Despite a spirited second-half performance and several late chances, the Reds were made to settle for a share of the spoils. FULL-TIME: Barnsley 1–1 Peterborough United Continue reading...
Since when as Jonathan Bland been a forward? I know we are short on them, but it's stretching it a lot calling him one.
Deep into first half stoppages is pushing it as well, as we scored in the very first minute of four that were given.
