Reds players have featured across the globe for their respective nations throughout the last week during the international break. Jon Russell was an ever-present figure for Jamaica, who had a very successful break, winning both their fixtures and scoring six goals whilst conceding none. The first of the two fixtures saw the Reggae Boyz travel to Bermuda, where they put in an impressive display, securing a 4-0 win. Russell delivered a solid performance from centre midfield, as he completed the most successful tackles (2) during the ninety minutes and won the most duels (8), as well as picking himself up an assist. Russell fed the ball to his midfield partner Kasey Palmer, who drove up the pitch and provided an impressive strike from twenty yards that found the bottom left corner. The second fixture saw Jamaica pick up a 2-0 victory on home turf at Independence Park, this time facing Trinidad and Tobago. The Reds midfielder once again caught the eye on the national stage, this time getting himself on the scoresheet, as he scored Jamaica’s second to wrap up all three points. It was trademark movement from Russell, who made his move into the box before a defensive mistake presented the ball to the midfielder’s feet, and he made no mistake from close range. An impressive week from the Reggae Boyz sees them sit top of their World Cup Qualification CONCACAF group. Wales Under 21’s were also in action during the break, as Jonathan Bland and Vimal Yoganathan were both handed call-ups to represent their nation during the Euro Under 21’s qualifiers. The fixture saw Wales host Denmark at the Rodney Parade stadium. Jonathan Bland was in the starting lineup, making his competitive debut for the national side, whilst Vimal Yoganathan was selected to start on the bench. It was the perfect start for the Dragons, who went two to the good in under half an hour, although this would be short-lived, as the Danish eventually mounted an impressive comeback and ran out eventual 6-2 winners. Bland operated in a deep midfield role, seeing out seventy-five minutes, as he was replaced by Yoganathan, who saw out the final fifteen. Northern Ireland were also in Euros Under 21’s qualifiers action, as they travelled to face Georgia at the Ramaz Shengelia Stadium. Patrick Kelly was handed a start in central midfield, whilst Bayley McCann was named within the substitutes. It was a poor start for the Northern Irish, as they conceded a goal in the seventh minute, but they battled well and eventually grabbed an equaliser midway through the second forty-five, courtesy of Matthew Orr. Patrick Kelly saw out the full ninety minutes, whilst McCann didn’t feature in this one.
