The Reds scored two late goals at the Toughsheet Community Stadium to make it seven away wins in Sky Bet League One in 24/25.

A quiet opening ten minutes in Greater Manchester sparked into life after Jon Russell won the ball back high up the pitch following a loose Bolton pass from the defence, which allowed the former Chelsea man to let fly from twenty-five yards. The effort looked destined for the top right-hand corner, but an outstretched hand from the home 'keeper Nathan Baxter denied an opener for the Reds.

From the resulting corner, the Reds had the ball in the back of the net after Conor McCarthy headed home, but referee Thomas Kirk saw a foul in the process and awarded the hosts a free-kick in the comfort of their own half.

On the counter-attack, Keillor-Dunn and Watters combined cleverly to leave the latter striding into the box with only the 'keeper to beat. Keillor-Dunn was an onrushing option along the right-hand side, but Watters' poke along the face of goal was cleared.

Bolton took the lead midway through the first half, as Klaidi Lolos skipped into the area the Reds defence pushed him wider but the Greek attacker managed to find the bottom corner and give Ian Evatt's side the advantage.

    Half-time: Bolton 1-0 Reds

Quickly after the restart, Reds skipper Luca Connell struck the post with a low, hard strike from the edge of the area following a bouncing ball finding the midfielder after a headed clearance. The pressure persisted from the Reds, with Watters squaring for Russell in the area who blazed his effort over the bar shortly after the 49th minute.

Just before the hour mark, Darrell Clarke turned to his bench to make a double change, introducing Kelechi Nwakali and Stephen Humphrys in replacement of the returning Connell and Watters.

Still in the search for an equaliser, the Reds coaching staff rolled the dice once more seeing Barry Cotter enter the fray for Georgie Gent.

After having large spells of the play in the second half, the Reds scored a deserved equaliser. Phillips played a ball over the top of the Bolton defence which Keillor-Dunn chested down, jinked into the area and curled past Baxter into the far, bottom corner.

Things turned from good to excellent for the Reds within ten minutes, as just one minute from time, Phillips swept home in front of a jubilant away end. The Reds demonstrated quick-thinking from a free-kick, as Nwakali played in O'Keeffe on the right who squared across the box for the onrushing Phillips who calmly whipped the ball across the 'keeper into the bottom corner.

Despite some late urgency from the hosts in an attempt to rescue a point, the Reds held strong to ensure victory on the road.

    Full-time: Bolton 1-2 Reds

Reds: Killip (GK), Russell, Pines, de Gevigney, O'Keeffe, Phillips, Gent, McCarthy, Watters, Keillor-Dunn, Connell (c)

Subs: Smith (GK), Cotter, Cosgrove, Lofthouse, Humphrys, Yoganathan, Nwakali.

So different to Saturday at home to Leyton Orient(thank goodness). Time we gave our supporters at home games something to get excited about. 2024 home form has been shocking so let's start the New Year off with a win despite whoever the opposition are.
