Safe standing is now back at Oakwell ahead of tomorrow’s game with Bolton Wanderers.

OR1 in the Norman Rimmington stand has been transformed over the past two weeks and following sign off from the SGSA, we are able to launch the new experience at tomorrow’s battle of the roses.

There is also a safe standing section in place in the North stand for away spectators as per the guidelines on home and away allocations for safe standing.

CEO Jon Flatman said, “The process has taken a little longer than anticipated but launching safe standing before the end of the campaign is positive news. We hope that this will give fans a little more choice and ultimately help take the experience and atmosphere at the ground to the next level. This is the first major spend from the Capital Expenditure money generated by our agreement with the council last year and there will be more to come in the following months as we look to improve Oakwell. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Council, the SGSA, the Fan Advisory Board and the team at the Club who have worked really hard to help get this project off the ground.”

Fans in OR1 will receive an email from the Club today detailing the changes and giving supporters the opportunity to move from OR1 if they wish to.

Does this mean now that the rest of the away end will be told to sit down and if they want to stand buy a ticket with a safe Standing seat.

Good effort by the club though on getting this done

Anything that might help improve the atmosphere and fan experience is appreciated by me.

I always imagined the lower west to be ideal for rail seating, all the way across (obviously, they’d need to reopen the north side of it). I mean, in an ideal world, the entire stadium would be rail seating. Unsure if that might be a safety issue in an upper tier though.

But yeah. Great stuff. More of this.

Fancy, installing safe standing in an area where most fans prefer to stand and very often do. Whatever will they think of next?

I understand why they've done it. My only concern would be if it just encourages the rest of the Ponty to start standing.

If things improve on the pitch then we may start to get an atmosphere in Oakwell, however, if we have to watch the same old ***** then there will be no atmosphere.

About time the adults made some decisions. The Taylor report was a disgrace at the time and has gained no credence whatsoever since its poor inception. It made clubs pay money they didn’t have for a white elephant.

I couldn't stand up all game much as I'd like to so I think having sections of the ground is a better idea. I wish we could go back to not have specific seats though.

Don't think it will. And I suppose if it does then they could install.more?

Yeah but I believe the thinking is they’ve put safe standing where they have, because they stand up anyway so it’s more a risk mitigation. If sections who weren’t previously standing, start standing, that’s potentially very unfair on those who don’t want to.
