Having signed a long term deal this is the time we should only sell for big big money. Always look at the Naughton/Walker £10m deal. We need to make a few million here definitely

Wigan and Fulham enquiries according to Paul Walker.

And this Sheff Utd deal is a bit of a red herring - two players for 10 mil and the majority was spent on naughton after playing for a couple of years at a top champ club. That 10 mil also included future add ons and stuff.

Lowton went for 3 I think. We get that we've done well considering his age and how many games he's played.

Lowton has played more championship games than stones I believe.

3m plus some add ons ill be happy.

This lad could go on to play for England. Injuries permitting, he'll be worth £5m within 2 years. £1.5m is peanuts. It's same old Barnsley syndrome. If he were at Wolves, he'd be valued at £3m already.

    Exactly.

Naughton laiked 40 games for Sheff Utd, got voted into PFA team of the year and called up to U21 squad in the same year.

The real comparison is with Walker at the time but the majority of that £9 million will have been for Walker. And just to add, both played at Wembley that year too.

He's a quality player, we should get as much as possible but I'd be happy with £3 million plus add ons for appearances, caps etc.

Tell them both to 'do one' and keep him while the summer. Tell everyone he's staying to help us try and stay up. Then sell him if we have to in the summer when his value will be greater (it will only go up if he plays for us between now and then).

Selling him now smacks of the club being desperate for a fast buck.

There's no issue with his contract so for the sake of 3 months football keep him.

It's not like it's Man United or Chelsea that's sniffing .....

Come on Barnsley, grow some b*lls.

Precisely, we are selling potential with Stones. We should be making a statement and saying that we believe he is a future England international and as such any offers below £5 million plus add ons will be rejected out of hand. It's time for us to stop getting mugged in the transfer market.

The article actually says we are wanting to loan him back till the end of the season. So if we can do that and get 3m it's actually good business. We still have Stones till the summer but also have some funds to bring in a few players now to help with our Championship survival!!

So the Club turns down 1.5m and insists on loaning him back..... Are we sure this is the same Don thats been in charge for years??? All of a sudden it's like he knows what he's doing!!!

Don't sell, end of. We don't need to.

Staying in this division is worth more than £2 million and Butterfield's & Davies sales should settle the accounts.

He's too young to be leaving BFC, there's a responsibility to the lad to consider here. He's best staying with us for another season after this, at least.
And in case anyone hasn't noticed we are in serious relegation trouble and need all the quality we can get. If we get relegated any transfer fee will only go to absolving losses in current revenue.

Tricky. If someone offers £3m and we can use some of that money to buy a new striker, then why not sell him. It's no use keeping him, getting relegated and then selling him. Id rather keep him but we have to be somewhat realistic.

I know what you are saying mate, but we have just kept our first clean sheets in a long time and it seems foolhardy to to solve one problem by causing another. At least we know John can do a job and there will be funds for a striker.

I wont be happy with 3 million, i'll be happy if we keep him.

Apparently we lose 5million if we go down. We need our best players to keep us up.

IF teams want him now they will want him in the summer when he has more games under his belt

I thought Don had confirmed relegation would cost £3million?

but then again, does anyone believe a word he says anymore?

If he was as good as Naughton/Walker in an attacking sense, then I'd understand the calls for £5m etc. As it is (right now) he's got a lot to learn so far as beating a man/crossing goes, and I'm sure that it'll come in time. But I'd wager he's already better than the two Kyle's defensively, or at least as good as.
Going to be some centre half is John.

For what it's worth, we can't afford to lose him now. We need our better players for the run-in, and John is one of them. So unless you're talking £2.5m minimum, future clauses relating to sell-on's, international apps etc, and the loan back option, they should hold firm until the Summer. He's not in the Butterfield situation where come June he's going whether we like it or not. And, as I work with a friend of John's, I'm told that he's not looking any further than that contract, and is currently living the dream.

Perhaps that's a trait he's picked up, from his mentor, a certain Mr Hassell......?

Relegation and best players sold = staying in league one.

If the club let him go then they will be kicking the fans in the face. Davies gone, Steele to go and Stones. Might as well just admit we're a sunday league side and enter the Barnsley leagues if they do that.

£3m is not enough, given his potential. £1.5m is ridiculously not enough. If a PL Club is offering £1.5m for a young lad from dirty little Barnsley, with only half a season under his belt, that should tell you they know he's actually worth twice that already. I can see why we would accept either of those bids - but we'll regret it.
