Confirmed by Rob Staton & Andy Giddings on twitter, Giddings stated "a long way short of valuation."

Hope they offered 3milion and we has turned it down lol.

Though if I was stones and they offered 10million I would say "**** off, tell them i dont want to speak to them"

he can do better than Wigan.... This isnt a butterfield situation where he was desperate from premier league - whatever the team

Why the disrespect for Wigan above?

Survived for over five seasons now, playing football the right way, with a young, well respected manager who gives youth a chance.

Look at Moses, great move for him, played regularly in a team that stayed up, got the experience and signed for Chelsea. Now has Champions League and African Cup goals to his name.

Aye, a bit like us, survival wise, only a division higher.

Probably upped it to £1.6 million. Good to see we are turning bids down.

If he does go, he needs to go somewhere where he will be playing week in week out otherwise he will fizzle out into nothing and become a lower league player like we've seen many many times before...particularly with our own former players.

I'm not that up to speed on all of the Premier League right backs/wing backs but you'd have to say Wigan could be a decent move for him as he should get opportunities. A lot of the other lower end Premier League clubs are under so much pressure not to get relegated that they feel more comfortable playing players based on reputation as opposed to ability and I don't think he would get a look in apart from cup competitions and brief cameos as a substitute.

Another problem, and the reason why I think we should reject all offers, is the deadline is tomorrow - what does it matter if we have £3m to play with when we can't spend it and have lost one of our best players in the middle of a relegation fight? And surely Don can't put £3m aside to "balance the books" again.

we should reject reject reject. flicker will have been in the don's office, with one of his churchillian speeches. our miraculous recovery under flicker will have definitely strengthened the Club's resolve to keep onto him. we need complete stability. accepting an offer for stonesy could wreck that

I don't get the hate for Wigan either. They are basically the Barnsley of the premiership. Constantly pushing above their level when you see the size of crowds, budget they have etc. I have a lot of respect for them and hope they stay up.

We should tell them all to **** off and come back in the summer with at least £5m. Stonesy is the real deal, he has the potential to be an international standard player. And no disrespect to Wigan but I think he could play in a team higher up. What about Man Utd? Is he of a lower standard than Rafael? He is maybe a bit further behind in his development but he is only 18. Put Stones in that Man U side and he would look an even better player. Fergie would dip him in and out, he knows how to bring a kid on. Man U would be the perfect move for him. And who knows, maybe that is what Fergie's call to Flicker was about? If I was Stones I would stay here and keep developing, because the real big clubs will come for him in the not too distant future. I am confident Stones feels the same.

i wouldn't be one bit surprised if part of the unedited '45 minute phone call' with ferguson included 'develop him for another season and we'll take him off you' ;)
