Wonder if they will return with bigger offer?? Allardyce had him Bolton so will know what he is capable of........
Played him once a season for five years so what's made him change his mind? Seen the top scorers chart and thought I'll get him back cheaply
Derisory according to Hill: Barnsley manager Keith Hill says the club have rejected a 'derisory' bid from West Ham for top-scorer Ricardo Vaz Te. Hammers' boss Sam Allardyce is keen to recruit the Portuguese attacking midfielder who he brought to England as a teenager at Bolton Wanderers. Hill says that is the only official approach for Vaz Te – who has 12 goals this season – but the Oakwell boss does not expect the player to stay at Oakwell long. "I think it is highly unlikely that Ricardo will stay with us after his contract runs out at the end of the season," said Hill. "He is right to consider his options and his fantastic performances this season have opened up numerous opportunities for him. He is probably going to move on either in the summer or in this transfer window. "We have had one for him bid so far. It was from West Ham and was derisory when you consider the amount paid for other players who are out of contract in the summer like Wes Morgan who has apparently joined Leicester from Nottingham Forest for £1million."
Re: Derisory according to Hill: There you have it. We couldn't make it clearer to West Ham. They have bid millions on players this window like Rhodes and Jelavic without any luck, but if they bid to them what would be a measly million pound on a proven goal scorer to help them get promoted, they will have him by end of tomorrow. Ball is now in the West Ham court.
Re: Derisory according to Hill: What Keith is probably unaware of though, is that the club is seen as a soft touch, and we never get true market value for our players. Shackell would have gone for at least £2m at any other club with 2 year left on a contract. There are umpteen other examples. Hard to believe we got £4.5m for Ward, £2.2m for Hignett, and so on... Get as much as poss and get rid. Viva Ricardo my arse
Re: Derisory according to Hill: This is what Hill was brought in for making money from transfers let him get on with it!
Re: Derisory according to Hill: We got them because of John Dennis. I don't care if peopel like that or not.
Re: Derisory according to Hill: Seen as a soft touch by whom? Those on here maybe but I don't know how you can assume that other clubs.
Re: Derisory according to Hill: We had more money back, it took bigger fees to prise players off us. Ward was only a year into his contract and was publicly offered 10k pw to stay. Blackburn were the spoilers back then, stockpiling players.
Re: Derisory according to Hill: Our Board also had 3 years of parachute payments. And Blackburn were spending daft money. £4 million on Nathan Blake, £7 million on Davies etc.
Re: Derisory according to Hill: The Shackell deal was an appalling piece of business. We should have got much more money for Brian Howard. But, I feel that the club were deluded and convinced themselves that he would stay. Unfortunately, by the time they realised he was going to leave, it was too late to get a decent price for him. We didn't even have a replacement lined up. I'm hoping things are different under the present manager. He seems a little more realistic. Good players are much more likely to leave than to stay - we just can't offer the wages that other clubs can offer. Get the best deal we can, and have a replacement lined up. That's all we can hope for at this stage.
Re: Derisory according to Hill: Good piece on him here..... http://thetwounfortunates.com/the-monday-profile-ricardo-vaz-te/
Re: Derisory according to Hill: I bet it was about 200k or something. If Wes Bambi Morgan is worth a million, after failing to impress for years in my opinion, then Vaz Te must be worth double. I realise that isn't realistic but anything less than 750k for a winger who's in the top scorers charts isn't an offer worth considering. Take someone like Lewis McGugan at Forest or Paul Gallagher at Leicester. Neither have out scored Vaz Te but you just know they'd command fees of about £2m upwards.
