Was naming 3 defenders and a defensive midfielder on the bench and leaving room for just one striker

Said this before, all that’s needed is 2 defenders; a full back and a centre half. 2 midfielders, 1 defensive minded and 1 attacking minded and then 2 strikers.

Cotter isn’t good enough for the squad at all when everyone’s fit…

We don’t have another striker worth playing in a game like tonight. Collins has obviously given up on Watters and Marsh would’ve been out of his depth tonight. Always thought we needed another one in the January window.

I suppose we should’ve put watters on the bench. A player you have lambasted at every opportunity (not necessarily unfairly).

Why is it you only pipe up with negativity?

Marsh would have been my choice if fit. Also not being overly critical with that observation, it's literally just an observation. A mistake is a mistake

I’m not sure marsh on the bench would change the result. Or even marsh on the pitch in this hypothetical situation. I don’t think that was a mistake tonight anyway.

I think tonight may show we have a very decent first 11 at this level but no real quality after that....errrrr imho.

I think fetching Cotter on at all and bringing Cosgrove on far too late were the biggest mistakes tonight.

Based on what though? A failed loan spell at York City and more or less total anonymity from 90% of his substitute appearances?

Everybody has been coming round to collins over the last few weeks, but tonight he got it wrong, especially the substitutions. It has taken him 3/4 of a season to play Williams in his true position , when 12000 reds fans knew what it was at the start

He’s always known Williams best position.

It’s pretty obvious he didn’t rate the other centre backs & wanted to move Williams back there as soon as could bring in better centre backs

I wish people would stop pretending that Collins didn't know its Williams' best position. He did and he does. For the 1000009990000009990th time, he (and I agree with him) didnt think our other centre halves were good enough, certainly with their lack of pace as well. Soon as that position got rectified, Williams was straight back at RWB.

It shows that even with our supposedly strongest 11 all starting last night, if we go up there is HUGE work to be done in the summer to get anywhere near staying up.

I am confident the board realise that and are already on to it.

Huge work needed too if we don’t go up. Cole, Kane and Williams will all move on and L1 will be even stronger next season.
    Hopefully we’re not in L1 though….

I'd give Cotter a go upfront if we're struggling to change a game. He's arguably the quickest player we've got and can finish reasonably well. If Kane & Connell can get their 'threaded through ball' game firing again, he'd be an option for me....

He basically has for his last 2 sub appearances, been put on to just be rapid and counter I imagine. Worked well first time, not so much against Bolton but definitely an option imo

I’ve actually thought the same myself about Cotter. Imagined folk would think I was barmy suggesting it!
He’s shown he can actually finish and has plenty of pace. He’d definitely be a better option than Watters, especially playing off Cosgrove.
Great minds eh? Or crazy ones maybe….

If we go up all three will go anyway.
