If the inevitable happens I'm rather looking forrad to it! We're too big for L1, too bigger crowds, too nicer stadium, most seasons in the 2nd tier! Just thought I'd start practicing as that's what the other Yorks giants have spouted over the last decade or so. Bring it on I say.
Sheffield united Bristol City Preston Hopefully Birmingham we won't be the biggest fish but at least we won't be the smallest either
Suppose the likes of Preston have to be a warning to us, they were challenging for promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs not that long ago but haven't done anything in League One since they went down - averaging just short of 10000 which, to be honest, we'll be lucky to get.
Don't let the club see this. They will have to work harder getting their message across. We cannot compete with the likes of Walsall, Port Vale and Gillingham.
The L1 superiority complex has started to spread upwards thro Sth Yorks already! Ha ha 'we don't deserve to be here', 'no disrespect but we should be beating teams like Carlisle', 'off the pitch we're a Championship club' ..... I can hear football heaven now!
we could groundshare with athersley rec while we rebuild for the future,be a reyt atmosphere,6 thou on athersley north
Get the results and the fans will come through the turnstiles. I feel I have had the football life sqeezed out of me over the last 3 years. Well, ever since we got promoted to the Championship. I've not had a season ticket for 3-4 years and I'm so cheesed off with football that I can't even watch 90 minutes of it on the telly. I hope League 1 and a few wins will get my enthusiasm back. This constant relegation battle has taken its toll on me. There was a time when I could recall the scores of all our games, the team, players used, etc. Now I can barely remember who played where a week after a game. Now I just want to forget. I met up with an ex a few months ago and the first thing she said to me was "are you still football daft". I wish I still was! Maybe it's my age? I can remember when I first saw Concorde. I worked as a mechanic for the Tracky and we hired a mini bus and took the afternoon off work and watched the Reds play Wimbledon at Plough Lane. Concorde flew over. I think we drew 1-1 and I was back at work at 7.30am the next Day. Another time I came home from work on a Friday and I asked my wife if it was ok for me to go and watch Reds at Reading and stay Saturday night in London. She said yes if you want to, when are you going? They are picking me up at 7.30 in the morning I said. That was the game we won 3-0 with 3 first half goals. There were only 4 of us behind the goal that Day. She has to kick me out of the house to get me down to Oakwell now. My hope for next season that my love of football returns and we win more games than we lose. I will always be a Red until I die.
Mid 90's was that? Any idea why there was such a small away following? On the rest of your post though I can fully understand where you're coming from, the motivation to go can disappear when it's just season after season of sh*te. I've had periods where I've gone of it for a few months but never a full season. Strangely I've felt more behind them this season than I have for a while, suppose it's because I feel they need it and if in some daft way I can affect the performance by 0.0000001% then I have to keep doing it. A lot of my mates have almost completely lost interest in going to the games though, I'd never been to an away match on my own before this season - I've been to three on mi tod now.
