When I worked in Oman, no person was given a visa unless you had a medical certificate showing you didn't have TB. We used to carry vaccination certificates to prove you were up to date on jabs. that stopped, why? We are going backwards on health issues.
Re: What Uh oh, the injection only lasts for 15 years! Didn't they stop giving the injections in school a while ago?
Re: What It was stopped in schools in 2005 Why do we no longer vaccinate teenagers with the BCG at school? The BCG is no longer offered to children in secondary schools in the UK. It was replaced in 2005 with a targeted programme for babies, children and young adults at higher risk of TB. This is because TB rates in this country are low. TB is a difficult disease to catch because it requires prolonged exposure to an infected person. For example, you are very unlikely to catch it by sitting or standing next to someone who is infected. http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/vaccinations/Pages/bcg-tb-vaccine-questions-answers.aspx#teenagers How common is TB in the UK? TB isn't very common in the UK. There were 6,520 cases of TB in the UK in 2014. Over a third of the infections (39%) were in London and around three-quarters of cases (72%) were in non-UK born people.
