Considering it's the countries 2nd biggest city with a population of 1,073,000 and a surrounding metropolitan area of 3,683,000 that away crowd is truly shocking!! Thats almost 5 MILLION people. Is that the worst supported team to area population in the country?
i would say its probably Barnet, one of the london boroughs and dont get that many, huge catchment area. just a guess
To be fair to Barnet, within 20 miles you've got Spurs, Arsenal, Watford, QPR, Leyton Orient, Chelsea, Fulham, Brentford, Millwall, West Ham, Charlton, Dag & Red, Stevenage, AFC Wimbledon and Crystal Palace so a lot of competition. But in Birmingham there are only 2 professional clubs to choose from. Remember when we went down to St. Andrews in September, only 13,000 were there - that makes our 9,000 look fantastic when you compare the size of Birmingham to Barnsley!
That I am. I forgot that they were all in that area. Apologies Birmingham City. Still a lot of people for 3 clubs though!!
worst supported team to population goes to gloucester city fc they get 389 people out of the 150,000 that live there. they are claiming they are the worst supported club by population in england. yes i know there not a league club and its there claim not mine
Crawley must be up there somewhere, although I guess they're only just getting started, same with MK Dons. Bristol clubs don't seem that well supported. Birmingham seem to be one of those clubs with MASSIVE floating support, bit like Bristol City and Wolves. When they're on a run of success, they're bringing 7000 fans with them, all stood up, bouncing about. Bad season and suddenly it's down to 800 fans making no noise. Whenever a match at St Andrews is on TV, it's either full to the rafters, intimidating, flares and pitch invasions, or literally an empty soulless morgue. Very little in between.
Apparently donny has a population of 67,977, but like barnsley the surrounding metropolitian boroughs make up 302,400. Still, BCFC's is worse
It is ideal when the catchment area is the whole world. Theyr're fecking everywhere. Than again, clever marketing.
