Few months ago I swapped banks and my new bank sent myself and the old bank a letter to take over ALL my direct debits/standing orders. They agreed and everything was transferred over, or so I thought. Last month I got a phone call from my old bank saying I owed them £500 for unpaid direct debits and they had been cancelled due to non-payment. Is there any way possible to claim this money, or at least some compensation back from them seeing as they've left me in the **** for the next few months?
Yes, it happened to us about 6 weeks ago, explain to your new bank that your old bank is charging you for their mistake. Take all the paperwork from your old bank to your new one. Thats what we did and they paid us by transferring money into our new account which we then paid straight the old bank and closed the account. (Y)
All I've been told so far is... "we'll do our best to look into it" To me, that says they won't bother!
Thats happened to me aswell. Im just in middle of changing my bank account over from Halifax to Alliance & Leicester. A&L said they wud swop all my direct debits over too, they havnt & now i owe Halifax around £500 in DD & charges. Halifax charge £39 per charge too. Robbin Sods!!! Ive been told to write in with all my charges & they should be able to do something about it
how come its so chuffin hard fer em...I had it too several years ago It cannot surely be bloody rocket science in the day of the internet etc to achieve this simply...but it seems not. mine was even the same bloody bank just went from branch to branch and they insisted the account was closed at the one branch and then a new one begun at the new one (dunt ask why cos to this day I dunno)...and they screwed it up... they eventually admitted and paid back all the charges. But thats not the point..point is this should not happen , as I said not in the age of the PC/internet etc etc
I moved from NatWest to Halifax a few years ago - everything went fine apart from 2 direct debits which didn't get moved as the company involved would not accept the authorisation I'd signed for Halifax, and instead required me to contact them personally. The 2 DD's? My mortgage and my home insurance which were both through NatWest!
that's the key with any Financial organisation regulated by the FSA and who sign up to the FOS when the FOS (Ombudsman) ask for the file they immediately charge the financial organisation £580 for it, even if they eventually support the bank etc. it's then a financial decision: £580 or pay/write off whatever you owe. Dunt always work mind but that's the general rule. often needs a complaint in writing
