Danny is a midfielder who combines tough-tackling and silky skills, and has been capped by England at Under-21 level. Drinkwater thrived in the Reds' 4-5-1 formation, striking up a particularly fruitful partnership with Tom Cleverley, and scored twice in 15 appearances for the second string - including a dramatic late winner in the Lancashire Senior Cup final against Liverpool. Having played a key role in United's successful defence of the Manchester Senior Cup, Danny joined League One side Huddersfield Town on a season-long loan at the start of the 2009/10 campaign. He initially flourished in Lee Clark's side, but lost his place through injury. Displaying his trademark doggedness, however, Drinkwater once again became a mainstay as the Terriers narrowly missed out promotion from League One.
He then went on to have loan spells at 2 Championship sides and at neither commanded a regular starting place, used mainly as a sub at both Cardiff and Watford. Accused of being lazy and lacking a work ethic at Watford too. Hopefully he will realize that this he has to improve on and will be a great signing for Barnsley FC.
According to huddersfield fans, play him and he's good. Deetee, might have played with butterfield at manchester united for a bit.
That was in league 1 , the other 2 sides are in the Championship, maybe he struggles to cope with the step up, maybe he just did not enjoy being there and coming to Barnsley will be good for him, we will soon find out eh?
living in Manchester could be the reason he was decent at Huddersfield, and i should imagine he'll stay be in Manchester wile he's with us too
Although I think he should be, there has been plenty of young lads gone through the Man Utd academy and turned out to be below average!
he did play together with Butts at United.. Jacob tweeted as much earlier.. said sumat along the lines of "cant wait to play with my boy again" hmmm...
Maybe us being reasonably local for him and him being good mates with Butts will mean he settles well and we get the best out of him. Could be a good signing.
That is exactly what happened when he joined us. Played in center of midfield with Seyi Olofinjana as the holding man. Worked brilliantly at the start with Olofinjana competing for everything and Drinkwater picking up the pieces and moving the ball forward to one of our wingers/forwards. He buzzed around the midfield and seemed to be in the right place all the time, he set the tempo to our game. Thought we had a real player on our hands tbh. Picked up an injury and was never the same again, you would have sworn it was a different player. Shame really, and very disappointing in the end.
Quote from Man Utd fan I know: "Hahaha. Hope you're signing a physio too." Makes Nardiello's recuperative powers look like Wolverine's apparently.
