    They're simply monster paws

    but the shape is actually supposed to be an eye with eyelashes or at least it was.

    from wikipedia:
    The shape known as a 'monster paw' that is still used today is based on the eye of the cycloptic yellow monster, with the 'fingers' representing the eyelashes.
