But impressed by the comments of the fans, who made the long and expensive journey down there, with regards to the performance of the team as a whole. There's areas which we can work on to improve over the coming weeks and months, other parts of our play already being up to the required standard (not that these can't be improved, either). Still as optimistic as ever for the coming season.
Feel the same. Wasn't there but everything makes me think we did OK and were a tad unlucky as opposed to well beaten by what are a very good championship team. Plenty of teams worse than Ipswich and plenty of games where we'll play a lot better at both ends. Still have a slight nagging concern around full backs. Didn't overly rate White in L1, and obviously Yiadom is stepping up from L2. Hope they both make me eat my words but wingers seem to win games in this league.
I recall being tonked 6-1 at Portman Road very early one season, and we went on to have a pretty decent campaign!
I'm more than willing to show patience and allow everyone time to adjust to this new level and certainly won't write any of our players off after one game.
Yup. Also, we lost our opening two league games of that particular season, but it didn't stop us reaching Wembley.
Absolutely the same. Def not writing anyone off. Think it's a really exciting squad and have full faith Hecky will iron out any weaknesses in our play. Still very confident we'll have a good season
It was a really good game, Kev. We weren't scared and attacked and should have been 1-0 or 2-0 up at half time with Ipswich down to 10 men (even their fans on their forum agree!!). Second half we conceded some sloppy goals from their player who picked up loose balls on the edge of our area. But we all were optimistic we'd get back into the game, and we almost did! Fans sang brilliantly throughout and we deserved at least a point. Very optimistic.
Strangely Not seeing any pundits predicting us as one of the three to be relegated. Not sure whether to feel happy or worried about that.
Re: Strangely Disappointing, but not bitterly so. Bitterly is when you want to go out and nut someone. It's just the first match and the goals were all defendable. I'd feel worse if we'd been outplayed, but it certainly doesn't sound like we were and putting two past Ipswich on their own patch is cause for optimism.. Yours, happily clapping...
