@Didcot Red I finally got round to watching my local team Farnham Town last night. First time in 23 years of living in Farnham They play in the Combined counties league Premier South division which is 5th tier non league 9th tier overall and are running away with the league Snapshot of the top of the league table shows why - I believe they are the only side in Europe with a 100% record in the league now this season Last night they played the 3rd placed side Abbey Rangers and were a class above - won 4-1 but should have been more. It was a joy to watch players passing to other players in the right shirt , lots of movement off the ball not being frightened to have a shot etc. Farnhams keeper didnt have much to do either though I was treated to a relatively rare event of an opposition goal As we approached half time fan behind me said to his mate "It would be nice to watch some closer games for a change" Ive heard it all now! I had a great evening much better than Saturdays "entertainment" £8 to get in Good Burger and Fries for £5:50, BrewDog Lost on Draft at £5:95 per pint and you can sup your beer whilst watching the game, and I got served a beer in under 5 mins during half time. I will definitely be back when we dont have a game on to distract me
Yes as long as the ground meets the requirements. I know they plan a new 250 seater stand so I expect that’s planning ahead currently attendances are around 600 to 700 not sure how many were in last night but still plenty of room
My mate loves non league. He’s a Barnsley fan but hes just kinky for the small grounds. As a visually impaired supporter, I think he’s a bit dissatisfied with professional football and the way his needs often aren’t catered for. The very least he should expect is a match commentary, but for one reason or another he’s sometimes left without. Though commentary is often unavailable at non league games, though not always, he feels he gets better looked after. As mentioned the food is often better and also the small clubs are much friendlier - they need the business more.
I know they stream the not saturday games live on youtube - not sure if its just video or if there is a commentary - will check it out sometime Another thing there is a lot less timewasting and gamesmanship - none of the rolling around in apparent agony for the slightest touch - it was a very pleasant evening out for me - no real stress either as I have no real bond with the team yet so its stress free watching - had Abbey Rovers won it wouldnt have spoiled my evening
The nearby town of Llantwit Major has a team in the welsh league I keep meaning to go sometime. I cannot get to Oakwell these days due to health reasons but miss going to a game.
Got to admit, for me at the moment non league is better entertainment. Been some cracking matches watching Penistone Church this season. Even went to Chesterfield on Saturday. They arw playing some wonderful stuff. If you get a chance get down there.
I would have thought a town like Farnham would have a team in a higher league. It doesn't always apply though. The best Abingdon can do is a team in the Hellenic Premier, similar standard to Farnham. Well done for supporting your local team.
It's to the South Western end of Surrey, near the Eastern border of Hampshire and to the Northern end of the South Downs
untold joy watching non league football my mate said a few weeks ago… I’d love us to win more but I dont want to get promoted!
