I've had a flyer shoved through my door for Redi's takeaway on Sheffield Road. They describe themselves as "Barnsley's first English takeaway". On their menu:- kebabs Southern Fried Chicken pizzas curries & bhajis Someone explain to them! (banghead)
Not disputing that, but it's stretching a point beyond breaking to describe Chicken Madras as being English.
Curry is now the nations most popular dish probably closely followed by donner wi chilli & garlic sauce. Even more closely followed by pavement pizza. But the survey was done on a friday night on Welly St
Actually its somert I've thought about doing as a little business in the past. Cook it, ship it, plates, cutlery, glasses & napery included. Serve it (no one can carve well anymore) then take it all away. Its a services I'd really appreciate on occasions
I think what you are suggesting is something a little more upmarket, more of a full catering service than a couple of slices of beef and some veg in a foil tray. I wonder just how many English takeaways they deliver, probably very few compared to the curries, pizza etc. Maybe I'll order a Sunday dinner one week just to see what it's like.
large scale catering never gets crackling right on roast pork or gets beef just the right degree of rare (I like my beef black & blue. Almost burnt outside and just warm but raw in the middle)
