I've had one of theses useless lumps from Virgin Media since April.
    up
Every so often it freezes up and the optical control won't work for anything from a few minutes to 3 hours.

Is this a common problem with them?

Never happened to me. Sounds like a faulty handset.

Common problem. Got my daughter one and they replaced it 3 times because of it.

Yeah it happens with mine every so often too. I usually end up taking the battery out and restarting.

Aye it's a common problem mate, but the most likely cause is a loose screw behind the track pad, take the back off your phone, remove the battery and you should be able to see a little screw(it may have a white cover on the screw head) just tighten a little and it should resolve the problem.
