who's position would you rather be in ? And what was your stance on the subject last season ? I was firmly in the go down and regroup camp last season, and I stand by it now, i wouldn't swap Blackpool places for all the tea in China.
Must admit I wanted us to stay up, but I've enjoyed my Saturday afternoons out (home and away) much better this season. Would take our place rather than Blackpools'.
Right now I would take our position. I think another season of misery and struggle in the championship would have been unbearable.
if the Oyston family carry on they'll be in the conference by the end of the decade may be a couple of seasons at least till we get back in the Championship, but hopefully we'll be better placed to compete when we do get back in there
Granted his family don't have a likeable personality but they have gave a small club premiership football for the first time ever, an all seater stadium, their best ever manager in Ian Holloway and they have no debt. They also refuse to pay agent fees which more clubs should do because players should be able to read a contract themselves and look after their own business.
Mr Oyston Snr, who owns the controlling interest is also a convicted rapist. He was my Mum & Dad's landlord back in the 60's, when they had a guest house in Blackpool. Pretty much everyone in Blackpool knows him for what he is. It seems strange to me that someone who has made their living as an estate agent, won't deal with other agents... The idea that agents are ruining the game is rubbish. It is the TV money & the way it is distributed that has done this.
I'm enjoying a season for the first time in years. I had this perception that relegation would be awful & we'd possibly plummet down the divisions & we'd be absolutely skint with a squad full of journeyman players & loan signings & I'd be watching terrible football but it's pretty much been the opposite. After a few dodgy results & performances at the start of the season the footballs been great to watch even when we've not won (Bristol, Notts County etc). I'd much rather be a fan of a yo-yo club like Peterborough have been than a fan of eternal strugglers like we've been since 2006. I don't really get the Blackpool situation, the chairman keeps saying they have money to spend but it doesn't seem to happen. I'd definitely not want to be in another relegation scrap though that's for sure
Some people on here got slaughtered for suggesting they'd like us to go down and rebuild, but now surely people can see a much brighter future for the club now then they would had we still been struggling at the foot of the championship table,
Yeah as a person is dad is worse than his son. Whenever in Blackpool the majority of houses for sale are sold by Oystons. I guess he knows first hand what agents can be like. If players read their own contracts and dealt with their own finances there wouldn't be a need for agents. Plenty worse chairman around. In their own county they aren't as bad as the Venkys or Phil Gartside with Bolton 180 million in debt and wanting relegation abolished.
enjoying this season too, fair enough its got the ups and downs of past seasons but more ups than looking at the bottom 3, still 6 months of the season to go and who knows it may be a good end too, the team seems more as one rather than against each other this time and I know some of my mates in Wolverhampton are hating what Sam Winnall is doing but I remind them of their saviour(?) Scott Goldbourne lol
Depends on what Danny would have done with a Championship budget this Summer as to whether we would still be struggling or not.
Cracking question......?I love watching us every week but last year was getting to point were it was soul destroying going to the games, this season I've enjoyed every Saturday afternoon. We've had a few dodgy games but the emphasis seems to be get the ball down and attack and as a football fan that's what you want on a Saturday afternoon, the standard of football I've seen from us and a few other teams as been terrific at times! Whether we can make a play off spot this year is another question, we certainly have the players to get In the top 6 but for the moment I'm enjoying the games.....the away games especially, the following as been superb to say how dire we were last season.
Related question - the play off game against Swansea, could have gone either way. They had extra time to build a team, and have thrived since. Would we have benefited from not being promoted as soon?
That ignores so many factors that it's ridiculous. You cannot seriously infer that had we not been promoted that day we'd have come anywhere near to what Swansea have done.
You start then looking as promotion to Prem and say build on the class of Brazil in division one for a further year and all the fallout from Prem might not have happened as we could still be up there. Not that I think that
Definately not. Plenty of teams have come up from league one and done brilliantly at championship level. Norwich with back to back promotions, Wolves as they are now, Bournemouth even more so. Plenty of other examples.
