I don't know the rules for sure but I thought entering the field without permission was a yellow rather than straight red

If you mean the thing with Jennings. It was their right back who was off the pitch changing his shirt ,Jennings was running into where he should have been so tried to put him off by jumping out. Should have been sent off I agree.

So what's entering the field without permission, and then fouling a player?

If he'd have tackled him he'd have been sent off

Ah, right, I hadn't noticed it was a player who had already been on the pitch.
No wonder my daughter thought they'd already used all their subs. Doh!

He didn't foul him. He was a few feet away more of a gesture

Having said that I would say that Shea's hair WAS a bookable offence.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing when he did it. It's the kind of thing you'd see in a playground not in a championship match.

Right, fair enough... I hear he said "boo!"

I think Jennings should have been booked for falling for it.

I missed the incident, as I was just looking at who might be on for Jennings as he broke through. Everyone around me was saying the sub came on and fouled him.

The foul is entering the field of play without the ref's permission. It is a cautionable offence under the laws of the game.

Ironically the offence was codified after the 1912 cup final when an injured Barnsley player ran back onto the pitch to clear the ball from an opposition attack in the Barnsley goalmouth.

    Extract of relevant paragraph

'A few more details though can be added about the match from other sources. Although Barnsley retained possession of the ball in the early stages of the match they found it difficult to breakdown a resolute West Bromwich defence. As the match went on, an incident occurred that led to the introduction of a rule that is still in force today. The Barnsley right half Glendenning was off the field receiving treatment for an injured foot. West Bromwich attacked the Barnsley goal and with the Barnsley goalkeeper Cooper beaten, Glendenning ran on to the pitch with one boot on and cleared the ball away from the Barnsley goalmouth. After this incident, a F.A. rule was introduced that stipulated that a player who is off the field must receive the referee's permission before returning'.

That's class, especially as we went on to win the replay!
