Bruce Hornsby and "The Way it is" on radio 2 - reminds me of final score on Grandstand with Des Lynam years ago. Tremendous!
Funny how songs trigger memories If I hear Life of Riley by lightning seeds I always think of Goal of the Month on Match of the Day
Talking of Blasts from the past I was with an ex BFC player (reserve) today We had a 20 min meeting about work, followed by 40 mins of memories from the Alan Clarke/ Mel Machin era ... there were some interesting tales ... finally got the Mal Shotton Vs John Deehan incident cleared up.
No-one who made it into the first team Rather not give his name cos I only met him first time today ... he made a few appearances for reserves after 2 years as Apprentice ... was given his marching orders by Mel.
RE: Ah the famous black eye According to the guy I met today, it was at an away game, and Mal Shotton's wife had no transport because the other girls she was with went on to somewhere else after the game ... so Mal asked if she could come home on players bus. John Deehan said no. Mal suggested that it was the wrong answer and that they didn't really want "to see the bear" (!). Deehan said no..... the next thing Mal punched him & he went straight over the next seat in the bus. Mal & his wife went hom in a taxi that night.
Definitely not The fella I met today siad they were once out in Leeds & someone started giving Mal Shotton grief ... again he used the words "You don't want to see the bear" ...... having heard this once before the ex Reds reserve ran for cover!
