Since the Hillsborough disaster. They've just had a minute's silence before the Liverpool/Blackburn Rovers game. It's probably my age, but it doesn't seem nearly two decades since to me.
Can't believe it's that long ago. I remember been at Oakwell that day and the announcement over the tannoy system for all emergency services to head to Hillsborough immediately. Then getting home after the match and seeing the TV, it was awful
first announcement was for medics to go to Barnsley general and the news was that Liverpoolm fans were on the mpitch, bit different in reality
Even though I was only 11 at the time I still remember it as if it was yesterday. Even at that age the magnitude of it hit me so hard that it quickly dwarfed the disappointment of that dismal 0-0 with Birmingham which effectively ended our play-off hopes that day. What made it worse was that a lot of my school mates were Forest fans who were there that day. Just didn't know what to say to them on the Monday. Btw JLWBL - when I saw the title of that thread I thought you were announcing your birthday
well...... ....maybe from time to time! I thought maybe you were trying to pull the wool over our eyes about your age! No chance for you I'm afraid sir, even though a few of the contributors to this BBS could easily pass as five year olds if the level of their posting is taken into account!
I remember the announcement also the walk away from the ground where the number of dead was rising. The silence was incredible ... everyone huddled around radios.
