.... has a spread bet on the number of runs the Irish team get in the whole World Cup copetition. He's bid £20 a run with a threshold of 559 runs. Now that they're in the next round with another 6 games (at least) to play his currently in for about £15,000 or thereabouts. He's Irish. So he's lucky by birthright. Jammy git.
How come the Irish get to be lucky They have Guinness, Powers, Paddy and Jamesons - how come they get luck as well. What do we have apart from lots and lots of really good beer?
How come? Do they only have to get 750 in total for him to get 15K , or do they have to get 1309 in total?
If its the latter then he aint gonna get anywhere near 15K

They will have just about hit the threshold after todays game so he will start earning £20 per run from then on. if they get an average of 150 runs per match in the next 6 games he will be set to receive £18k. The bookies made a schoolboy error by offering a low run threshold (although it probably seemed out of reach to them at the start of the tourny). They probably expected them to score about 400 runs maximum in which case he would have owed the bookies a tidy amount. Thats the risk you take on the spreadbet market.
