If all this prviatisation is so good for us, when are they gonna privatise the House of Commons.......

The sheer unadulterated cheek (for want of a better word) of the T**y party knows no bounds

If this is passed it is just scandalous..........

Only got to look at the wheel clampers to see how privatising enforcement goes

What will they do to prop up capitalism when everything is sold off?

    Bonkers, just bonkers.

Have you read The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein? Whilst I don't agree with everything that she writes (especially the way that she pretty much skips over the fact that economic reform in China and Russia has lifted millions out of poverty), the sections on crony capitalism and the privatisation of government functions in the USA are truly terrifying.

Yes , I've read it. The section on South Africa is the most frightening part. The IMF and World Bank ensured no wealth inequalities would be addressed by Mandela

Public services should be run by organisations whose sole remit is to deliver the best possible service, fulfilling the agreed mission of that service, within available resources. Once you put the profit motive and commercial competition into the equation then the focus changes. The share holder and the executive, rather than the client, become the focus of corporate outcomes.

Correct. We know this but we are the lunatics.

Except for delivering profits to shareholders, what have the private companies improved?

Not a lot by my reckoning.

Example. I had a letter the other day wanting to come and change my gas meter. I rung up the night before to see if they could tell me a time or ring me so I could pop home from work. At first they could not even find the job then they said it was canceled ( but no idea who by) and said I'd have to ring our supplier to arrange the works again.

The next night I came home to find a card on the doormat showing they had been. Another phone call and was told although it was cancelling it might not have got through the system in time to stop a sub sub sub sub contractor coming out. This contractor will still have been paid.

This is why bills are so high.

Its concerning but its the detail that missing

There are some funtions that can sensibly be privatised - for example maintaining police cars dont require in house police mechanics

There are some you can argue a case for for example a glorified taxi service transporting prisoners - Personally I think this shouldnt be privatised but I can see arguments for it

and then you get on to investigating crimes again the detail is important - I dont think too many would object to bringing in as required private experts in a particular field for example forensic scientists as part of an investigation but once you start using private companies as a lead rather than a support role its getting very dangerous

not least because making a profit and providing a public service dont sit too well together in many areas and so one suffers at the expense of the other - and its not usually the profit that suffers
