2 sides to the story Alexander was offered a new, improved contract before Christmas as he was out of contract at the end of the season. Just after that we (Hammam FC) were bought out and the new board decided to review the unsigned contract offers by the previous regime/dictatorship. Alexander was offered a new contract on the same basic terms as he was currently on but with add-ons based on appearances, clean sheets etc. which took him to vastly more. Alexander claimed in the press that this represented a 33% reduction to the previous deal whereas the club maintained that he'd been offered improved terms. I suppose it comes down to whether he thought he was going to be the 1st choice keeper or not and he must have thought the latter. What I would say on that front is that Dave Jones seemed to single him out for criticism more than any other player. To me and many others, this was grossly unfair. Alexander had his best season with us last year in the 5 years he was here. He was the best keeper at the club by a country mile but was dropped after a howler v Sunderland (one of very few mistakes all season) and missd the last 6 or so games. Fantastic shot-stopper and his command of the box improved no end last year because he was previously dodgy on crosses/corners etc. Just don't ask him to save a penalty - saved 1 in his whole time at Cardiff. On every other occasion (and I kid you not) he dived the wrong way! Unbelievable. If it were down to me, I'd have kept him. Definately.
