Could the take over work if BMBC still own 50% of the land thus save guarding the clubs future whoever takes over. This would also show that potential investors are interested in the football side and not shafting the existence of BFC.
That was put in place purposely to safeguard the club from any un-scrupulous future owners. Whether or not they are prepared to work with that, should provide a good indicator as to where their motivation lies.
Priorities have changed since that deal was struck.. BMBC have been selling council- owned properties all over the Borough since the recession started and organisations such as volunteer groups have had to move on to other accomodation. Also, BMBC were fearful at that time that their 're-making Barnsley' plans might be affected should potential buyers had plans other than football for prime land adjacent the Town centre. I honestly think that BMBC doesn't have any choice should potential buyers want all of the land.
Re: Priorities have changed since that deal was struck.. May have no option but to sell their stake in BFC if rumours are true about further slashing of Local Authority budgets, Tory boys are going to slash and burn Labour controlled Local Authorities before the next election
Re: Priorities have changed since that deal was struck.. What stake in BFC, the Council doesn't have one?
Re: Priorities have changed since that deal was struck.. Time to start lobbying your councillors with your concerns
Re: Priorities have changed since that deal was struck.. what about (ok realms of fantasy but )i think we'll have a new ground built 'cos we're rich arabs and you can stick the one you own up your pipe mr council
Re: Priorities have changed since that deal was struck.. If that was the case, who would they get the planning permission from? Could it be the council?
Re: Priorities have changed since that deal was struck.. Barnsley Council bought Oakwell in 2003 to generate funds for BFC to pay it's creditors, namely the Chesterfield legal firm Peter Doyle had mortgaged it to. If they hadn't, we would have been thrown out of the Football League and we would still have lost Oakwell.
Re: Priorities have changed since that deal was struck.. If (massive if at this stage) we are taken over then I would feel massively disenfranchised if we moved from Oakwell.
Re: Priorities have changed since that deal was struck.. Why would we move ever? I wish the club and council would publish a definitive document on the ownership status of Oakwell, if just to stop the bollacks talked on here if nothing else!
It's owned by oakwell community assets ltd. that company is owned 50-50 by bmbc and pc last time I looked Genuinely hope that helps !
Re: Priorities have changed since that deal was struck.. also as i stated a few years ago and earlier this week it stopped oakwell being developed ( bowling alley/icerink) then flats above therefore meeting the sports facilities bit and a shopping area and the council not wasting the monies they'd ploughed into regenerating the town centre by having a mini meadowhell built 3/4 mile from there
Re: Priorities have changed since that deal was struck.. Well my vision for a go-kart track fell on deaf ears!
Re: Priorities have changed since that deal was struck.. solong as it fits the sporting facilities thing then it could be owt, but theres already a council run go kart track in barnsley its called athersley north. and dont forget the new flats being built at the side of the carpark
Perhaps some people just won't except that BMBC played a big role in our survival.. just because it doesn't fit in with some of the ***** they spout on here. Give me our council and it's Reds supporting leader anyday day rather than the Dictator in Donny, who wouldn't have battered an eyelid if Donny Rovers had been made homeless not so long ago.
