Reading about BMI earlier I decided to check mine. The reading came out at 26.4 classing me as overweight.I'm sure at 6f 2in and 14.5 stone and in my 60's is more healthy for me than been in the 10 to 12 stone region which the "experts" suggest.Same with my cholesterol I was always told anything below 5 was fine, mine was 4.25 but I was put on a statin. According to the medical team at the doctors I was fine but the "powers that be" keep moving the goalposts. How do your readings measure up?

Same for me re. cholesterol. I had a 3.9 reading but put on statins. I’m 75, 6’2” but weight OK at 13.5 stone, which is surprising as I drink too much and take minimum exercise.

Obviously there are exceptions to the rule but the general consensus among experts is that BMI is a good indication of whether someone is overweight or not.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-43895508

Tim Cole, professor of medical statistics, at University College London Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, said BMI was "still extremely relevant".

"You don't see many bodybuilders around but you do see lots of people with large waists. Many people get exercised about that wrongly."

I know in this post-truth Trumpy Brexit world "experts" are no longer required apparently, but I'll take a prof of medical statistics over, say, someone's anecdotal evidence that its wrong.

My BMI fluctuates between 19.5 and 21. Currently at 20 as I’m slightly over 5’ 7” and weigh 9st 2lb. No idea my cholesterol as never had it done.

A few years ago I was at the gym 3 or 4 times a week. I built my muscles up to the point where I became overweight according to the BMI. I wasn't overweight but BMI can't tell the difference between weight and muscle. So if you do a lot of exercise it can look like you have too much fat even though you don't. I don't do the gym much now so have lost the muscle and am no longer BMI overweight even though I'm not as fit!

There are definitely some flaws to BMI- any rugby league forward for example would register as obese on it, because it doesn't take into account muscle mass. Unfortunately not the reason my BMI is high!!

My BMI is 24.2 which is apparently classed as within normal limits. Up to four years ago
I was on a statin, but I managed to lose loads of weight. They tested me at my last medical
and said I could stop taking them.

I’ve got heavy bones and the double fat gene. My obesity is natural.

Had my cholesterol check about a month ago,she said it was just over 5 and put me on statins , took them for 4days.I had bad stomach pains, sore throat so I binned them.My brother told me his doctor told him to eat grapefruit and his cholesterol dropped way down but do not take statins and grapefruit together,I eat a grapefruit every 2days now with cereal so I will see what happens after my next test.

I think I must be too. I'm 14 stone but at 5' 9" I think under tall is exactly what I am.
